Torres demonstrated why Tapia's MMA-math wasn't worth shit tonight. It doesn't matter how good your record is, it matters how good you fight. Torres is on a level by himself right now at 135-lbs. Wagnney Fabiano is overly patient and would struggle against a pace-pusher like Faber, but he demonstrated tonight that his BJJ is superior. Tamura had incredible defense in his guard but Fabiano kept working and broke him. This was a much more technical fight than I think we're used to seeing in the WEC but it was compelling for BJJ fans. "A physical chess match" is what Rich Franklin would call this one.
meh was a good night of fights, but the Fabiano, Tamura fight was dull no matter how Mir tired to paint it. tamura was stalling and not trying to improve his position IMO. I like the ground game, but I like it when both fighters are going for things. Something about most Japanese fighters when they fight in a cage, they're timid and fight to survive not win... makes me believe a lot of Japanese fighters are extremely overated. Benavidez looks like a clone of Faber.. and that's not a bad thing. If they don't rush him to a title shot vs Torres, I think he could challenge Torres.
