Do you guys think that either Rudy or Travis will be invited in the 3 point contest this year?

I could see Rudy as he has a quick release. Outlaw would not get through all five racks. His shot is at the top of his very high jump. Too much wasted time to get off that many shots. As is, he only takes wide open threes due to the fact he does not have a quick release.

Remember, it's BO Outlaw to anyone outside of Portland.

    BigQ -- good analysis.

I think Rudy would do quite well in that contest. It would help is ROY credentials, too.

I'm so excited about the All Star game this year. The Blazers are going to be everywhere.

Good post. Actually, I could definitely see Rudy winning it this year. He's so fast with his shot, and he absolutely thrives under pressure. And he's accurate as hell.

I wonder how many All Star weekend participants we'll have.

Oden and Rudy should be on the rookie team, and the way Batum is going you never know. There are a lot of good rookies this year, though.

Rudy definitely should be in the three point contest. Especially after the Olympics. Blake seems at least a possibility.

We don't really have anybody but Outlaw who has spectacular dunks. Outlaw has little imagination and no sense of showmanship, and Rudy mostly pulls off circus shots on lobs.

Roy seems pretty likely to be our one All Star.

Man, how many years did we go through not having a single person involved in All Star weekend.

I don't think it will happen though. Maybe Rudy. But I doubt it.

Bayless could be in the dunk contest if they invite him. He was giving Travis a run for his money in several pre-season game warmups and the fan fest.

I'd rather see Travis in the take one dribble backwards to the top of the key and perform a turn around fade away with a player in your face contest. He has practiced that one a lot, and since no other player does that he would easily win.

I'd like to see Travis and 'Melo face off in a game of 2 on 2. Pull two fans out of the stands to be their teammates...since you know they'd never get the ball anyway.

    Fun for Everyone!

Hm... I agree that he wouldn't do well in the competition, because jump shooters often struggle in the contest.

He can TOTALLY get his shot off, though, whether he's covered or not simply because he can jump over the vast majority of defenders.

Rudy has a compact, easy stroke. He'd be a better bet to do well in that sort of situation.

They usually take one or two of the top 3pt shooters in the league, and then the rest are average-->good shooters but all-star caliber players. So, yeah, Rudy might have a shot.

One year the announcers pointed out that there is a HUGE difference between a shooter and a scorer. Antoine Walker was in the competition that year and did horrible, because he is more of a scorer. In the flow of the game and during a set play he can knock down the three, but when it comes to making shot after shot, he struggles. A Ray Allen or Dirk for example is more of a shooter.

I think that explains the difference between Outlaw (scorer) and Rudy (shooter). Most of Outlaws threes come from that same spot right in the corner, and its always after a drive and dish, by Roy or Blake. Rudy hits the three, more purely.

So I think Rudy would be great, but Outlaw would struggle.

I can see Rudy getting invited because he'll already be there as part of the Rookie Team, is a very good three point shooter, and is of interest around the league. People know him from watching him in the Olympics, and may get all the Spanish fans to turn out. So yeah, I think he will be invited, and he deserves it so far.

He's tied for 3rd in the league in 3PTM with 46. Right behind R.Lewis (50), Granger (47) and tied with Crawford (46). And shooting almost 44%. The other three players I just mentioned are no better than 38%.

    He's a no-brainer to make it IMO.
