This is their time. Let them enjoy it. Our time is coming soon. Let's hope we have a better crop of writers for our newspapers when our time comes.
I prefer to remember LMA's response
Until the Blazers beat the Celtics, then there's a certain (albeit disrespectful) grain of truth to what he said. I do think it makes perfect locker room material; and I hope the team takes it and uses it as motivation, 'cause they're going to need all of the help they can get.
Boston's got the title all sewn up. There's no WAY that 33 year-old Ray Allen or 32 year-old Kevin Garnett or 31 year-old Paul Pierce get hurt. No way. Once players start to exit their prime they become pretty much bulletproof, right? Ed O.
Can we beat the celts tomorrow? It's possible I guess, I mean, anything is.... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6dk7Il3EqI0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6dk7Il3EqI0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Quite possibly the douchiest moment in the history of post-Championship celebrations. I seriously think KG watched Titanic the night before and dreamed he was Leonardo DiCaprio standing on the front of that ship with his arms outstretched. "I'M THE KING OF THE WORLD!" "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!" Lame. What's the over/under in the game tomorrow night on number of times Garnett does the push-out-the-lower-jaw scowl followed by beating his chest a couple times? -Pop
There are two big games on ESPN tommorow. Not only are we playing the Celts, but the Jazz are playing. If we can get a win and they can get another loss it would put some more space between us.
Shaughnessy was the writer who dedicated quite a few columns, after the 2006 baseball season, suggesting that Theo Epstein got lucky with the Red Sox championship in 2004 and that the "honeymoon was over" and Epstein wasn't looking like a particularly successful GM. Then Epstein's Red Sox won another championship in 2007, and were close to another World Series in 2008. In sum, Shaughnessy doesn't really know what he's talking about. He's basically Boston's equivalent of John Canzano.
He may be. But that quote would be nice bulletin board material for the team to see. Does anybody know if they are aware of it?
I'm actually surprised he said that, though, because he usually roots against Boston teams just to create controversy.
