This is a silly idea, but I wonder if not having Riley has really hurt his coaching recently. I think he has made quite a few mistakes coaching recently. I don't know if they are dependent on things, but if the road has really been a nightmare because he doesn't have Riley to hang out with anymore, then maybe it is affecting his coaching? Yeah just a random thought.
I have an idea of what to do with a couple of those assistant coaches during games. You give one of them a timer. That coach times touches, any player holds the ball for more than 7 seconds, he goes to the bench. Another coach checks the shot clock, any player shoots the ball with more than :15 left on the shot clock goes to the bench, unless the shot is a layup, dunk, or AO. Shooting the ball without passing it first would thus be impossible. I don't even care if there's a wide open 3-pointer with a fresh shot clock. They can get those shots any time they want, they need to have ball movement, inside-first looks, and patience force-fed to them until it's like breathing. I'm not even looking forward to tonight's game because even if they win I know it's going to be the same undisciplined streetball crap again that you can't build consistent winning on.
I, for one, am glad Don Nelson cleared the air on this. I did not think he would do that to Mullin. Still, I rather have Mullin be Nelson's boss as opposed to vice versa or Nelson be in charge of player personnel. If Nelson is going to be here as coach, then I rather have Mullin. What I don't get is how the rest is going to play out? Will Mullin return? I rather see Rowell and Mullin work it out, and then I won't have to think about how Rowell will do as GM or who he will hire if Mullin is gone.
