come on now tang man, how about some honesty here? He took 13 shots and even more touches. He was the second option tonight. He shot 50% and thats all we ask. He is not the 4th option and never was. And yes, for a second option tonight he did well.
Yi is third on the team in shot attempts per game. Again, Krstic is a fine comparison. He was the third or fourth option on offense (he had roughly the same number of shot attempts as Kidd), rarely had plays specifically called for him, but as a second-year player averaged 13 points and 6 or 7 rebounds per game, and more imprtantly, was consistent and gradually got better over the course of the year.
tonight he played well and got a lot of shots. However that is not going to be the case every night. Carter and Harris are the Nets first two options. Lopez is the third and rightly so. You need a post presence. Yi is 4th in the pecking order but that doesn't mean he doesn't have opportunities within the offense. He DOES. What he needs to do is create his own offense a lot more rather than just be dependable upon Carter and Harris to get him shots because some nights those shots aren't going to be there. Hence the inconsistency. My main concern is that he is hitting a very LOW percentage of open 2 point shots. That's not good enough for sure.
If you only look at the stats then yes. I would like to know the shot distribution since Lopez has moved into the starting 5.
Well according to our boards resident stat man Dumpy he is the 3rd option according to attempted shots. And i believe he is. Lets talk about tonight shall we. I was most impressed with Yi's game and as you saw he did not just stand behind the 3 point line and attempt far away 3's. He shot well inside, he drove, he shot midrange shots and overall played like every nets fan dreamed he could play. Lets hope he can build from this success, and play more like that tomorrow night against the sixers. Thats all we ask. If he does nobody will be talking about him comming off the bench. Now, i never believed that Frank just told him to only shoot far away 3's. Its the dribble drive offense! Yes he gets kick outs and he has the option to shoot if open, or drive, or pass. He CHOOSE to shoot the 3's. That was when he was playing a bit soft. Tonight he played great! He did everything right. If he builds on tonight's performance he will turn out to be a very good pro basketball player. He just needs to believe in himself and let the game come to him.
True. Anyway, you're right in that we ALL want consistency from Yi. That much is pretty clear. I tear my hair out when I see him missing wide open 2's. Plus I would just like to see him be more aggressive in taking other 4's of the dribble. Use his quickness, jumping ability and length to get off shots in the lane.
Well its been around 12 days and 4 or 5 games since Yi had a good game. His defense is non existent. I'm starting to believe he has no clue how to defend. Sure he can block a shot now and then, but he's not playing against 5 foot China players anymore. There was a reason he got benched last year. The bucks coach realized he has no clue how to guard. He need to understand when a player drives past him you don't let him get in front of you. In fact he needs to understand he's supposed to try or at least make an attempt to try and stay in front of the player. His nickname should be either zero, or Matador. The Yi fans will say benching him will hurt his confidence, well to them i say getting burnt every night play after play can't be helping his confidence. Frank said recently he was letting Yi sink or swim. Well he ain't swimming is he. Hes like mafia figure wearing 100 pound blocks on his feet in the middle of the Hudson. Defense is based on desire and heart. Well i'm not saying Yi has no heart, but he was never , ever, taught any principals of defense. So, don't send him to the D league to learn defense, maybe send him to an junior high school girls team and he can learn from them because thats the level of defense he plays, and maybe that way his confidence won't be hurt. Hey Frank!!! Time to try something new at power forward, I mean anything would be better! The invisible zero matador isn't getting it done!!! oh yeah, go nets!!!!
Your tendency to be sarcastic towards anyone who criticizes Yi for even rational reasons does not go unnoticed.
I can't wait to hear the latest excuses.. One poster is now suggesting that they should bench lopez and start Yi at center. I mean really.... put the crack pipe down! step away and just walk away from it..
Yeah, benching him for a couple of months until he gets a decent handle on 'D' seems like the best option....honestly, as a Yi fan, it's freaking annoying and embarrassing when Yi plays like this and still gets a sh!t load of votes for the All-Star Game (I know Yi has no control over who votes for him), but Yi could at least make the effort to step his game up.
Said it before and i'll say it again.....Yi is frustrating to watch, i want to root for him but his combo of bad all around def/turovers/and complete waste of being 7 feet tall make it hard. I like Ryan Anderson's game, he may not shoot as well as Yi but at least Anderson tries on def. and actually tries to do something on Offense other then shoot long jumpers. Is Anderson a starting power forward? on most teams no he's not, on the nets RIGHT NOW, possibly, but right now theres no way in hell Yi would start on any NBA team. Solution, Get a REAL powerforward in the offseason. To me anderson seems like he'll be a great 6th man. Yi.....well i dont have much to say about him other then he's a streak shooter.
I said this and I will say this again Yi is the 2007 verison of Darko. LOL LOL LOL I remember people saying Darko was gonna have a great career once he left the pistons. Everyone is not built for the NBA and there is always over seas. Plus the way they are paying players. He should really think about that.
LETS HOPE yi and simmons get hurt. i think thats the only way frank changes this lineup. i think a major flaw in this teams chemistry is that everyone knows that yi stinks but he is being showcased just to try and help this team make some money. terrible! how can frank be this stubborn. we lose because of poor defense! who is the worst defensive player on the nets? yi.
ceo we as nets fans are glad you like the team, but you are going to need some help with your english. So if you don't mind we will assist you when we see mistakes, for example... I hope you dead, ..... should be i hope you die.... ok the poster was wrong with what he wrote, you never want anybody to get injured, especially someone on your team. Although there was a time long ago i had similar thoughts about Michael Jordan and Larry bird, but dare i disgress. Anyways don't get so upset this is what we call in America smack talk. They really don't mean it, or the poster is very young.
