http://www.forbes.com/2008/12/03/business-basketball-nba-biz-sports-nba08-cz_kb_mo_cs_1203intro.html Cohan bought the team in 1994 for $130M, so if we say 15 years, that's a $13.7M average return on investment each year over that time. Not bad for what has been a very crappy product over most of that span. Of course he'd have to actually sell (please? please?) to cash that in but the chances of major sports franchise values going down are almost nil. But, does anyone know what the operating expenses and revenues are each year? I think teams are allowed to keep those figures hidden, aren't they?
Who knows, you could try looking for the books and see what you can get. I didn't know the Warriors were doing so well to be honest.
Well I think the major figure for expense would be player salaries. Then there are probably a lot of smaller items that make up expenses like rent for the arena, employee salaries, travel arrangements, hotels, marketing, advertisement, etc. At first I was thinking that the rest of these expenses wouldn't add up to too much. But I really don't know, though I am really interested no in seeing how much they do add up. Maybe you could add about 5 million dollars to the players salary expense and get total expenses. But that's a really interesting question now that you pose it. Actually they have the information that you are looking for on the same forbes webpage for the Warriors. I hope this link takes you there http://www.forbes.com/lists/2008/32/nba08_Golden-State-Warriors_324799.html I don't think it's working. But if you look through the story, and check the rankings, scroll the slideshow until you get to the Warriors, then click the link below where it says the Warriors team name, like "More on Golden State Warriors".
