Gerald Wallace. I think he can be really good in the right system. Maybe not a huge scorer, but the glue guy that will defend and score and help compensate for others weaknesses. Marquis Daniels was I guy I was thinking about this summer, but I wondered about the attitude due to his off court issues in Indy. Tony Allen is a solid player, but he isn't going anywhere.
Devin Harris was not a hidden gem. He was the point guard on a team that went to the NBA Finals and the point guard on a team that won 67 games and set an NBA record with three winning streaks of 10+ games the next year. Late bloomer, yeah. Hidden gem, nah. Dallas screwed up big time with him....BIG time. You want a hidden gem? Take a look at the lottery picks the last three years and see what players are stuck behind first rank players or players stuck on a bad team with a bad coach. By that definition, the Nets already have a hidden gem on the roster. His name is Yi Jianlian.
lol @ morrison. i dont think he would qualify as a gem. maybe a specialist. whoever said martell webster is a smart man. b4 his injury dude was playing great.
For a model, look at Gerald Wallace. Sacramento completely ignored him; Charlotte acquired him and made him a starter, and look what happened.
I wouldn't mind bringing him to the Nets but he would probably cost more than what we're willing to give up. The Nets have had success with so-called head cases in the past. Daniels would cost too much as well. We don't need Dunleavy, he isn't that good. Don't need Warrick. Webster is definitely not the odd man out in Portland. Many fans consider him their starting SF once he comes back. Thomas sucks. Bargnani doesn't need a change of scenery, he's having his best year ever. Toronto aren't trading him any time soon. Diogu would cost more than Ager and a 2nd rounder and isn't worth it. Wallace would be great, but who would the Bobcats want in return? I'd say the Nets don't have enough assets to give them at this point unless we sacrifice some good picks. Allen isn't going anywhere, as you said.
I wasn't recommending Thomas or Bargnani, just saying that they are guys who haven't done well but are still young and went high in the draft. And Bargnani has done well, but not as well as I think he could. And I'm not sure how much Diogu would cost, he seems like he was a throw in in the Bayless trade, and he is only getting 3 minutes per game. I dunno how much the Blazers would want, but I wouldn't think it would be that much. And his career stats: 12.6 mpg, 6.1 ppg, 4.4 shotspg, .498 FG%, 3.1 rpg. over 36 minutes: 17.5 points, 12.6 shots, 8.8 rebounds. Richard Jefferson career over 36 minutes: 17.5, 12.8, 5.4 Gerald Wallace: 15.8, 12.1, 6.9 Carmelo Anthony: 20.8, 17.4, 8.5 Luol Deng: 16.7, 14.1, 6.8 Shawn Marion: 17.3, 14.5, 9.6 Hedo Turkoglu: 15.8, 12.9, 5.4 Rashard Lewis: 17.6, 14.0, 6.0 Caron Butler: 16.2, 13.6, 6.0 Corey Maggette: 19.9, 13.5, 6.2 Josh Howard: 17.1, 14.2, 7.2 Mike Miller: 16.0, 12.7, 5.4 now, I know its a small sample size for Ike, and I have no idea about his defense, but it seems like he wouldn't cost much, and he could be very good.
Per 36/40/48 stats are pretty useless IMO, especially when dealing with extremely small sample sizes like Diogu's. Stats are dynamic and the players' play changes throughout the game; you can't just multiply stats and see them as realistic. Diogu would probably cost Sean Williams or Boone plus a 2nd rounder or something like that. Again, not worth it. There's a reason why Golden State and Indiana gave up on him after two seasons each. He's a bust.
Sorry, but as i live in England i struggle to follow the whole league. I just therefore tend to just look at all Nets. From what i've seen wasn't Morrison meant to be a future star before his injury? or has he always been terrible?
Morrison was never going to be a star, he was overdrafted because he was very good in college. At best, he's a scoring punch off of the bench.
Krstic was averaging 17 and 7 when he went down and had two 25+ point games in the 10 days before he was hurt. A healthy Krstic may not be as athletic as Yi, but he is more skilled in the post and has almost as deep range. And the Nets retain his rights, although with Yi, Lopez and Anderson, I can't see where he would fit on the Nets. It's a damn shame, but that was a tough injury and the Nets have recovered better than he did.
JR Smith is the modern version of the microwave, former Piston Vinnie Johnson. He can score you a bunch of points in a hurry off the bench but not sure how he'll go as a starter.
