Source Boone isn't starting any time soon IMO. And is Boone gonna take Stro's minutes? Or is he behind him in the rotation? lol. Also It sounds like the team has given up on Swat and will likely trade him or D-league.
I feel sorry for Sean Williams. The guy has talent and can really offer the Nets something at the defensive end. However the big log jam of bigs means there's only some much playing time to go around.
I'm sorry Ive always been a big supporter of Sean Williams but I'm just sick and tired of the guy now and I can guarantee you after these comments he wont be in NJ for very long. The guy is an athletic freak but has no basketball I.Q. and his talent is limited. I wouldn't give him up unless we got a defensive PG or SG that could help this team improve on the defensive end, other than that I would just send him to the DLeague. You don't make those kind of comments to the papers, especially when your a young player trying to prove yourself. When he has gotten playing time this year I've been so frustrated with his play its unbelievable. It's sad to say but I think Sean Williams days are numbered in the swamp.
A couple of things... --Sean Williams should keep quiet. There's no need for the Nets to trade him. He obviously wants out but the Nets have the luxury of letting him develop on their terms. In my humble opinion, they should try to see if he can develop as a small forward. Frank told WFAN last season that the 3 might be his natural position, at least on offense. --Reading Kerber I think a trade could happen soon after December 15. That "you never know" comment by Thorn was NOT a denial that he's talking to people. Kerber noted sources said there is interest in Sean Williams and in Stromile Swift's "amazing expiring contract". That's the first I've heard of any interest in either. It's possible someone involved was signed over the summer. I would read the Kerber peice carefully. He may be the best REPORTER of all the beat writers, knowing more than he can write.
Swat is pushing the issue, he wants out of the Nets. You think Hayes will be traded and Swat move in as back up SF? Why couldn't Swat develop to a Josh Smith style forward?
The Nets would be idiots to let go of Hayes who IMO is the most reliable person coming off the bench since Lucious Harris.
he's athletic in terms of him having long arms and instincts to block shots. But other than that he doesn't seem very coordinated. His rebounding and his post game is awkward and weak. He has a slow shot and always seems to end up taking a fadeaway. He had a decent turnaround jumper that i saw in the beginning, but that sorta dissapeared.
I hate to see a player lose his spot on the team because of a hustle injury. As soon as he is at full strength, I hope Boone gets a shot at starting again. Just look at the positives. He is playing with guards who don't need a scoring big man just one who can screen his man and follow up on a miss. Boone, as starter, would be used to lean on the opposing starting big man, the first of three solid centers to do so. Brook would still get more minutes, when he is on, which would be more often when playing against the opponents' second unit. By the fourth qtr we would still have 3 rested centers, pick and choose depending. Unfortunately, Sean's time to grow with the Nets maybe coming to an end. He is behind the bench players at both big spots, with not much chance for playing time once everyone is healthy. How is he supposed to learn if he can't play (meant both ways)? Only if he goes to d-league for daily individual instruction, or if he goes to another team who can wait two more years for him to develop on his own. If and when he becomes a star player, I'll be kicking myself for having said this, but what choice is there? His window of opportunity is closing here. Unless ...
Sean has absolutely no SF talent and his ball handling is pretty atrocious for a wing player. I agree that his basketball IQ is pretty low, but this guy needs intensive minutes that he just can't get on this Nets team. He really needs time in the D-League.
IMO it's hard to be sorry for Sean. He had all the chances in the world to prove he belongs or at least to show some progress. He failed to capitalize and can only blame himself. Since Boone went down, Sean had only one good game (against Raptors) and that's it. D-league or a trade.
How can you feel sorry for Williams? He's just not a good basketball player. Great athlete, horrible basketball player. It's unbelievable that people thought he had the potential to become as good a player as Martin was.
Kids like Williams take time to develop and all that means is that he doesn't deserve playing time just yet. He's still got practice to hone his skills and i'm sure nobody would object to him coming in on off hours to work on his game. The true test is whether or not he's still busting his butt despite these comments. We should be in no rush to trade this kid just because our current crop of rookies are playing great.
The thing is I don't really care if he is still busting his butt. He got his chance, now sit until your called upon. Don't question why your sitting. You should know...you sucked when you were out their..plain and simple. He might still be busting his butt out their, but if he's bringing down the team with his comments then get him the heck out of NJ.
Honestly it seems like nobody is really listening to Sean in the first place so I doubt he's bringing anybody down. Now while I don't agree with his snippy comments to the media I don't subscribe to the notion that he should just shut up and take it because he may actually need to really have it spelled out for him. I actually really hope he's asking why and working on those reasons between quotables and if he is then he merits some more investment. That gets me back to my original point, if he is then we should deal with his blurts but if he's not then I agree he needs to go. Lopez, Anderson, and even CDR have spoiled us as to how well a young players integrate themselves into our lineup as every one is a prototypical Frank player but Frank even mentioning the notion that Sean could try some time at the 3 shows he hasn't quite figured him out either and maybe more time is needed to do so.
I agree. And I for one do think he can develop into a decent SF. It might take some time, but it's worth the risk. Unless they were spooked by Harris' ankle injury and feel they NEED a third PG, what's the rush? This isn't last season when the Nets had a shortage of decent big men and he had to be pressed into service.
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/columnists/lawrence/index.html?page=1 What the hell? Thorn and Kiki have to get in on that trade.
Look the guy started for a stretch last year and he probably figured he get plenty of playing time this year. However, the rookies who have alot more organized bb experience are better than he is now. So what? He's a competitor and still a young kid. He may be a bit disappointed right now, but he has a right to be. He's been busting his butt for over a year now and has made some improvements. I think he could become a sf over time, you saw what he did to beasley in the summer league. IF or when he focuses he can be a lock down defender. Who was the guy from West Virgina who the bucks drafted is similar. Very athletic but little playing experience, in fact spent most of his life in china. He could become like that guy. But i don't understand is when a guy makes a simple statement like he did, and people on this board want to fire/trade/castrate him?? Is this notzie germany?? relax people...
The only rush is if they think they can bundle him with some other assets to get a significant upgrade at SF. I agree though that there is no rush to deal him for another prospect. And I agree re: Fred Kerber. I used to not really read him, because I prefered the NJ papers. Since last January, though, he has gradually risen to #1 on my reading order.
I'm sorry but I don't want to see a guy bring down a team with low character that has a bunch of rookies on it that dont need that kind of impression from a teammate. How do you think the other bigs feel when they hear one of their teammates feels like he isnt getting developed like the other rookie bigs? This dude hasn't played well and is running his mouth off to the press. And this isn't the first time he has done it this season. Here's the list of things he has done this season already that I've noticed that shows his low character and "ME" approach. 1.Opening night in Washington...Swat standing outside the team huddle not listening to the coach and yawning! Later after commerical timeout they show Swat again and again he is yawning because he is not playing. 2.Nets pick up his option...he goes to Al Iazzone of the Ledger and tells them he wishes NJ did not pick up his option. Not getting the time he needs. 3.Gets taken out after a couple of bad shots during Home game against the Pacers, sits on bench and yaps about being taken out to Mo Ager. If it isn't his way, then he wants out. He was like that in Boston College and we thought he would progress here....we all thought wrong.
