Dave Meltzer (WrestlingObserver) originally reported that UFC 91: Couture vs. Lesnar wouldn't set any records for the PPV buys, estimating an early buy rate of 800,000 for the PPV. However new numbers suggest that not only has the UFC done better than that, they've done almost as well as they expected. Meltzer writes that the UFC pulled a whopping 1.05-million buys, barely shy of the Liddell/Ortiz PPV that scored 50,000 more. Good sign that the UFC can still thrive in a tough economic time.

Its impressive but I still think GSP/BJ Penn 2 beats that.

I HOPE the GSP vs BJ Penn fight tops that. It's a better more skilled fight for the sport as big as the return of Randy was and of course a former WWE star fighting for the title, we're talking two of the top 4 p4p fighters in the world matching up.

I can't see GSP/Penn II doing these kinds of numbers, which is a shame. Its at least twice the fight Brock/Randy was.

GSP/Penn 2 is also a better overall card than the Couture/Lesnar card, so maybe that will help to draw in some more fans to watch it. I agree with Speeds though, I don't know if this will do as well because Lesnar himself brought in alot of different fans than the usual that would watch. I don't know if this fight will get advertised on WWE.COM and everywhere else that Lesnar/Couture was at.
