Hehe. Well I should probably direct your attention here: http://sportstwo.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1818203&postcount=18 I'm what you might call "kidding on the square" (to borrow a phrase from Al Franken) I absolutely loathed last year's ridiculous "Free Sergio" movement that sprung up on Blazersedge and other message boards I check. I thought it would be kind of funny to post something like this to highlight the stupidity of proclaiming "Player X is ready to play" based on a super small sample size. But I should admit I'm only partially joking; I'd really like to see more Jerryd on the court if he's going to bring the kind of grit he displayed the other night. However, I have no doubt he's not quite ready to to take away minutes from Sergio and Blake on a nightly basis ... but when he is, I have a feeling he could really open some eyes.
+1 I'm not sure if Blake is just a run-of-the-mill back PG up any more than Joel is a run-of-the-mill back up center. I think either one of them could play a role on a Championship team, and that is a major complement. Both of them have made career decisions to stay in Portland, they like it here and want to play a role here. They could both start in this league, but have chosen to stay in Portland to fill their roles, that's is a very fortunate situation for a contender. Blake needs to seriously work on his defense, maybe put on some weight since he'll never be able to out quick other guards. If he did that maybe he could develop into a Derrick Fisher (in-his-prime) type player.
I'm for Bayless getting more playing time but not at Sergios expense. I think Sergio will be a better point guard in the future with Bayless being a high scoring combo guard off the bench. I doubt if Jerryd will handle the ball as well as Jarrett did his first year.
Seriously, what is the deal? Are we showcasing Sergio? He might be the worst defender at the 1 in the NBA.
I thought Bayless definitely should've gotten a look tonight. The way Williams was lighting up both our PG's.
2nd game in a row where Sergio takes more than 3 field goal attempts and scores at miserable clip. 2nd game in a row where Rudy fires the 3s like there is no tomorrow and bricks. 2nd game in a row we are losing. I can't wait to hear how it is all about the process and they get good looks. Well, at least it was against a good Utah team in their home tonight - but we have got to get Brandon some help with someone that can attack the rim from the dribble. Release Bayless, I know he is a rookie, I expect him to have some turn-overs - I expect him to sometimes miss the obvious pass - but it's time we stop the Sergio experiment where he over-dribbles, bricks a layup, turns the ball over, bricks a layup, turns the ball over. Blah. Can't wait to hear how, once again, our 22% 3P conversion rate is not the reason we lost. A shame Travis did not make a bone-head game at the end to give us a convenient scape-goat. I said that we lost last game because we shot the 3 like idiots and they were hot from the outside. This time we shot the 3 like idiots and they executed beautifully in the paint. Yes, Travis has issues and he sometimes makes the bone-head moves - but he was not the reason we lost the last game and he is not the reason we lost this time. Sergio can get anywhere he wants on the court with the ball - but he still can't shoot - so he is an offensive liability and the good teams will just let him shoot and close the passing lanes leading to bad shots or turn-overs. We still insist on shooting the 3 all night long - Rudy needs to attack the basket more or just shoot closer shots for 2. Better to be 5-9 from the 2 than 2-9 from the 3...
Last night was a good Bayless night. Both Blake and Sergio struggled. Then again so did our coach so that probably explains why Bayless sat
MM - I would definitely like to see Bayless out there, but the question is, can he LEAD the team. I know he can drive and attack, but can he lead an offense..
Ok I have the perfect solution to getting Bayless more playing time. With Batum struggling move Roy to SF and start Bayless at SG
