The answer is yes and no

Bayless is great at attacking the basket, and he is a pretty good defender. The problem with that is he makes rookie mistakes so Nate won't play him.

Travis is one of the worst perimeter defenders in the league, while Batum plays pretty good defense, but again, Nate has troubles playing Batum because he is too inconsistent

What probably should happen is Portland should trade for a couple of older vets at PG and SF who are solid Perimeter defender and can get to the rim on offense. That way in a few years when both Bayless and Batum are ready to play more minutes they will have learned from the right people.

I think Kidd could also be had. He or Nash would be greta tutors for Bayless.

For Batum I'd like to see Wallace, Battier, or even a guy like Raja Bell or Grant Hill

Williams burns a lot of teams. His defense on Blake, Sergio and Roy constantly took the Blazers out of their offense and had them scrambling to get off a shot. And he not exactly a slouch on offense.

It's funny how our interior defense just plain sucked last season, and now our perimeter defense sucks this season. Or maybe we just weren't good defensively overall last year.

Watching Williams on defense is a thing of beauty...that guy has got some of the most up in your face defense i've seen this season.
