Next ESN Power Ranking This upcoming homestand will be important to us as it will alter our rankings.
I have a feeling that losing to the Clippers really hurt our current status. I bet we will move down to #7 or #8 when the poll comes out Monday?
Interesting that our current slide is the same as Blake's late game freethrow heroics... I guess he can fight the team for the "lil nickle" moniker.
Here's the larger question: Who cares? I doesn't matter what our so-called power ranking was last week and whatever we are ranked come Monday morning will have absolutely zero impact on playoff seeding this spring.
I agree.. I don't really pay attention much to polls or rankings or whatever. Especially when John Hollinger does them. Good thing this isn't the crappy BCS!
Sagarin dropped us to #8. It's sad. I liked when we were #4. We've played the toughest schedule of all of the teams in the top 10. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/nba0809.htm
Another interesting stat at Sagarin- only the Lakers and Celtics have won more games vs Top 10 teams than we have.
I'm willing to bet that everyone here cares ... when the trend is good. Sorry, but saying "who cares?" when the rank is bad/down is being a poor sport.
I'm sure many people cared when the team peaked at number #4 ... and I'm sure people will roll their eyes to hear me say it, but I wasn't one of them. Not to say that I'm completely immune to good feelings when national writers give the team some love, but it's just completely silly to get either too excited or too down about where somebody ranks this team with respect to the rest of the league.
I'm always intrigued when the Blazers reach the top ten in the Power Rankings, and I do check in on the rankings from time to time. But I'm much more interested in how they're doing in the Northwest Division. I think they can win the division, if they can stay healthy.
It really is not that big of a deal. Even when we were at 4, it's just one guys opinion. I'll check it, but trust me, it has NO bearing on the team or how they play. They could care less.
Weren't they ahead of Boston in one of those rankings a couple of weeks ago? I thought that they were and that is when I stopped caring one bit.
Looks like we dropped down to #6 in the Hollinger rankings and dropping 8 spots to #12 in the other one. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/powerranking Not too bad. But we can win the division if we take care of Utah and Denver. Those are the key teams.
They were because they had had a better season to that point, given the road-heavy and difficult schedule and the parameters of the equation Hollinger uses. Ed O.
