I think this favors Gordon more, because coach's will be reluctant to vote in a rookie. Gordon has had 2 big games against Cleveland and 1 against New Jersey. If the thought that NBA coach's are shortsighted and will thus vote for players who destroyed their team, then Gordon should be looking from votes from these sources. Gordon is pretty much a lock to get the Milwaukee and Miami votes. Scott Skiles is definitely voting for Gordon. The Miami vote should go to Gordon as result of pressure from Riley, who has been a Gordon fan. New allstar free agent acquisition Ben Gordon next year will sell more than just new free agent acquisition Ben Gordon. Rose had good games against Philly x 2 and Atlanta in the East. A lot of big games out West on the circus trip. I think Gordon could also be favored by some politicking by coaches to get their guys on the roster. Boston trying to get Ray Allen on (also Ainge likes Gordon) might vote for Gordon to try to slight Carter/Johnson, same with Atlanta, New Jersey, etc. It'll be close. Both Rose/Gordon will be fringe allstars. It'd be really nice if one of them gets in. I would guess Gordon because of Rose's rookie status.
I doubt either make it, though Rose will make it maybe as soon as next season and will make it every year after. Gordon is simply not an all-star unless the bulls win a bunch of games in a row and he's the key guy. Doubtful.
Regardless of if they get on the allstar team or not, Gordon should be invited to the three point cmpetition and Rose to the skills competition.
Yeah, the only way I see Gordon making the team is if he was part of a 58 plus win year, and bunch of the players made it. Think BJ Armstrong.
Rose has a good shot to make the All Star team where as Gordon doesn't have a good shot. Allen Iverson Joe Johnson Richard Hamilton D Wade Ray Allen These guys are way ahead of Gordon.
Are you serious? Neither of them have a shot. Thery're both playing like marginal all-stars and if Chicago was at the top of the conference maybe but for a #8 team, no way.
A ROOKIE point guard averaging 18 points per game, 6 assists and 3 defensive rebounds isn't what I would call "marginal" All Star...more like spectacular. Rose hasn't even dented his full potential. Rose is 1 of the top 2 best point guards in the East. Gordon on the other hand I'd agree only to a certain extent. He's got way more competition AND he still needs to improve his skills alot to compete..which he can do.
Yeah it's spectacular, for a rookie. And the ASG does not designate PGs and SGs. He's not a top 5 guard. All the guys you listed earlier are ahead of him and I think the coach will give the nod to a vet over a rookie who, like you said, will be there many times over the next 10 years.
It's divided by East and West....so while Derrick Rose may not be a overall top 5 point guard...he's in the top 5 in the Eastern Conference...Gordon is behind those guys mentioned in my post above. I think Rose deserves a shot for playing like a champion thus far.
Just be happy that Rose will be in the Rookie-Soph game. There is no chance that either of these two make the ASG.

After looking at my ratings, I'd say: 1- Wade (top tier SG, by a mile) 2- Harris (2nd tier PG) 3- Johnson (2nd tier SG) 4- Carter (2nd tier SG) 5- Rondo (3rd tier PG) 6- Allen (2nd tier SG) 7- Calderon (3rd tier PG) 8- Rose (3rd tier PG) 9- Bibby (3rd tier PG) 10- Mo Williams (3rd tier PG) 11- Nelson (3rd tier PG) 12-Gordon (3rd tier SG) A "tier" is just a standard deviation of their production level for each position. So Wade is in the top standard deviation for SGs. Johnson, Carter and Allen are in the second std dev, and Gordon is in the 3rd. Gordon is actually at the top of the third, but there's still a considerable space between him and the second. Rose is right in the pack with Rondo, Calderon, Bibby and those other guys. As far as I measure, there's very little difference between them. Of course, Rose is a 20 year old rookie, so in the grand scheme of things I feel pretty good about that. Rondo and Williams have an easier job too, since they play with Lebron and KG, among others. I'd knock them down for this, but if history is any guide it makes them more likely to get bumped up into the all-star game.
I don't really understand your rankings. Right now, I would rank it as: 1. Dwyane Wade 2. Devin Harris 3. Joe Johnson 4. Vince Carter 5. Ben Gordon (Better scorer than Johnson/Carter, but those two are better playmakers, really close between them) 6. Derrick Rose 7. Ray Allen I don't see how Rajon Rondo, Ray Allen, Jose Calderon, Mike Bibby, Mo Williams, or Jameer Nelson could be considered a better player than Gordon. Plug Gordon in any of those guys places, and their teams get quite a bit better. Plug one of those guys in for Gordon, and the Bulls get a lot worse.
For Jose, maybe, ONLY if his D is better. Jose is sieve. Offensively he can score, pass and run a good offense.
As of right now, my top 5 in the east are Wade, Johnson, Harris, Carter and Rondo (in no particular order other than Wade at #1). The I'd also rank Allen above Rose. That puts Rose at #7. Gordon hovers around #10 for me.
