Rice was talking to KP about if he was going to make a move and mentioned Memphis and KP acted as if Rice didn't even mention the Grizz. Usually, KP would deny that anything is going on. Anyway, the guys think KP will make a move by the February deadline.

I think we were really lucky to get a candid KP during the summer. Now with the season in full-swing and the trade deadline a couple months out, he's gonna be more tight lipped.

But what trade would make sense?

We have great depth at every position except PG. We could always add another reserve PF or SF, but big deal. I doubt it will mean much.

Maybe a trade for Miles? Keep him from playing any games. :)

    Hah.

The Blazers should have signed Miles and let him take Shavlik's place on the inactive roster just to ensure we aren't on the hook for millions of bucks. :)

I thought about that. I don't think there are any explicit rules preventing it (mostly because no player who has ever been deemed medically unfit to play has ever come back to play) but I imagine Stern would have one whipped up in no time if a team ever tried to pull a stunt like that.

The best would be seeing Miles complain to the media about his lack of PT: "I just don't get it, I'm working hard and waiting for my opportunity."

So, if the Blazers sign the guy, it is a farce and the salary goes back on the books, but it another team signs Miles (Memphis, in this instance), it is legit and the Blazers pay in terms of the tax.

Why even bother having this rule if this is the case?

Why would the league let us even sign Miles if we wanted?

Whether it's a farce or a good strategy, Miles would never sign with Portland again, so either suggestion is moot.

Well, at this point we cannot. Because he's with Memphis.

But if there's no rule against it (and there might very well be... I don't know) it seems Portland could just as legitimately have signed Miles as Boston, or LAC, or Memphis.
