You'd think with Fitch and Koscheck both getting their asses handed to them Mike Swick wouldn't be so eager to "rush" at GSP before he's ready, but Swick is talking about fighting Thiago Alves and therefore stealing Alves' title shot with a win. Swick has had three fights at welterweight, all wins, two by way of decision (split vs. Josh Burkman, unanimous vs. Marcus Davis) and one by knockout (vs. Jonathan "Glass Joe" Goulet). He has an impressive 13-2 record with his loses coming at the heavy hands of Chris Leben and the smothering wrestling of Yushin Okami. Swick has yet to fight an A-level fighter and he thinks Alves is a good first step. I think Swick has the potential to be a title contender at welterweight but at this stage I think he's getting ahead of himself. Also, Alves is a warrior but it would be a bad choice for him to want this fight. He's already earned his shot and might as well wait it out. IMO Swick is severely jumping the waiting line if he thinks he deserves a shot at Alves and then a shot at the title if he wins... dude needs to fight better competition and get another 2 wins.. this ain't the HW division.
I think Swick's next fight should be againist Sanchez. Sanchez was about to fight Alves for #1 contender spot before he got injured so its logical. In my mind the next few fights would be something like GSP v BJ Penn in january GSP v Alves in april or may Swick v Sanchez in April or May GSP v Sanchez/Swick in Sept or Oct. of course if Koscheck doesnt sign somewhere else he needs to be in the mix there somewhere.
^ Yep, good call. Sanchez/Swick makes a bunch of sense. Kind of stupid for AKA to have three guys all in the same weight class. Koscheck and Fitch could easily fight to see who gets next in line.
only issue with Sanchez is... he's at 155 now wow 170 sure has thinned out with Hughes being on the downside, Sanchez dropping to 155 and Karo not improving his skills with the newer fighters.
oh yeah, I totally forgot that Sanchez decided to drop down to 155. Well, I think if the UFC offered him a chance to fight for the #1 contender spot at WW he wouldnt decline.
