Not bad.....for elevator music. I prefer something like Amon Amarth that will really get the blood flowing!

Amon Amarth like, Tolkien's Mount Doom? Metal bands that are hard-core Tolkien fans? (And yes, I'm a middle-earth dork. Hard-core, and for a much of my life. I hated the movies.)
BTW DaRizzle, color me as another one who saw this thread and thought it was about you and imminent physician-assisted suicide. I felt bad for a second. Glad to see you're ok.
I can appreciate the music that heavy metal bands play. Some of it is really badass. The problem I have is the cookie-monster vocals. I cannot STAND that shit. I just... can't bring myself to listen to anything with cookie-monster in it.
I grew up on Tolkien and Robert Howard. (Lovecraft too, but thats another story) In theory, Amon Amarth is inspired by viking folklore...but I suspect that in the dark of night they lock themselves in the bathroom and read Tolkien by flashlight! (mustn't compromise their image as big, tough barbarians!)
Metal/prog-rock bands are often huge fans of fantasy, even putting fantasy imagery into their lyrics. Led Zeppelin is an early example (I don't consider them metal, but they were clearly a major influence on metal and huge Tolkien geeks).
Scandanavian/Finnish bands are particularly big on tapping into fantsay and folklore. Some of them also make a point to tap into the traditional folk music of that region. "Viking Folk Metal" sounds like a joke, but some of it is really good!
Yeah, I've heard some of it. Scandinavia is one of the death metal world capitals. Must be their gloomy weather that leads to such doomy music.
Ive never been into any death metal band...To me it just seems like they are just trying to be metal as possible by sounding heavy as possible which IMO makes the music suffer
