um, no. Man, Jerryd really needs some burn... he looks like our best defender at PG every time he hits the floor (granted, it's typically garbage time). We really need some more aggressive defenders out there to keep everyone focused. Does Nate just plain hate him? There are plenty of scoring first/playmaking second 1s in the league. Not many who are/have the potential to be lockdown defenders as well!
I'm just throwing ideas out more than anything. I thought it might be a good move since Lee can play off the bench and give you a solid 10/10. He's a good role player and won't complain about minutes, even if he's backing up Oden and Aldridge. He can also play sparingly at the 3. But I can't imagine the Blazers getting anything more for Bayless unless he plays more minutes and produces. He was projected to go pretty high but several teams passed him up. I think that raises even more questions about him.
I think it is a fair trade but I just don't think Lee would be happy in Portland as a backup. Plus I really don't want to trade Bayless period. IMO Bayless is going to be a star in this league and he should be playing more right now.
Done. I'd love to have Lee. I'd look at a deal like that as Lee for Bayless and I'd do that deal. Gramps...
I think that as the season progresses, Bayless will end up getting more minutes while working himself into the rotation. The season is still young and he should realize that he is still young as well. He'll get his burn.
The championship Bulls didn't have a need for a true PG type, and the Blazers probably don't for the same reason. The Bulls had Pippen playing PG on offense and SF on defense. This allowed them to use a guy at the "PG" position who was a defensive specialist (Ron Harper) or any of a number of 3pt specialists (Kerr, Paxson, Hodges, et al). Maybe there's less of a difference between SF and PG vs. SG and PG, but you guys have a guy in Roy who can basically give the Blazers what Pippen gave the Bulls. That is, a spot open for a guy like Bayless regardless of his ability to be a pass-first PG. The key thing is wheter Bayless can guard opposing PGs on the defensive side, and he probably can...
Bayless will have to wait his turn, or at the very least wait out his contract. Have fun carrying Sergio's luggage Jerryd.
Good thing we have him under a contract where we have him locked up for at least 4 more years. I'm concerned that he's already complaining about playing time. McMillan plays the guys who give the team the best chance of winning. Bayless needs to improve his game and stop complaining about playing time. And if McMillan doesn't like rookie mistakes... Why does Batum start?
Keep in mind also guys that Brousard said "some NBA executives" said Portland doesn't view him as a good fit. He didn't say he got this from the Blazers themselves.
Good catch. Still, what do you all think at the end of the day. It seems to me that Roy is basically saying he wants to play with a Ray Allen type who can handle the ball but can play a catch and shoot game off the ball. "Volume scorer" seems like a euphemism for "guy who needs the ball in his hands all the time". That may very well describe Bayless. At the end of the day, not every player can work. That's obviously true on the Blazers, where Roy is cemented as the starter at the SG shot and Rudy is pretty well cememted with getting a lot of minutes as a guard. There's really only enough minutes for one more guy, so is Bayless the right guy?
Interdivision, another young core, Portland's two biggest needs according to most fans are a defensive PG and SF. I'm not sure it's a good fit to be honest.
yeah....just wishful thinking on my part really....lol...Brewer would've been interesting if he wasn't injured and McCants or Miller could be a volume scorer that Roy would like to play with...and Minnesota has pciks which Portland could package up in a deal for a good PG....just ideas
Well, what would interest Portland would probably be Minnesota's 1st rounder, but I don't think Minnesota would give that up, even for a huge expiring in LaFrentz and a young stud in Bayless.
If Bayless can develop his shot to 38-40% for range in the way that Blake did (his numbers weren't very impressive earlier in his career), then Roy will have him, Webster/Batum, and Aldridge to throw out to at range in the starting lineup (in the future). Right now Roy has at least four other guys he can throw a pass to on the perimeter (Outlaw, Fernandez, Blake, and Frye). I personally don't see a terrible need to have another shooter. Of course, having a skill like a long shot doesn't hurt. But I would much, much rather have another guy that can defend the perimeter than a guy that can't, but can shoot. Our defense on the point has been really thin.
haha I am just messin with ya bro. I am the resident asshole. Oh, by the way... I didn't like the Minny proposal lol
Phoenix appears to have gotten it together a little bit the last couple of games...BUT Blake/Bayless/Frye for Steve Nash could appetize them if things are still not better in a few weeks.
