This was the headline from Al Iz today...No Home Court Advantage for the Nets. So the question of the day: Is it the fans responsibility to get their team going...or do the players have to give the fans something to cheer about to get them into the game? IZOD Center has been a weird place this year, no question. It was empty last night. But there were some of us cheering and yelling out support. Not a lot of us. Once the game got tight, the fans did respond...and got loud. But when the Nets came up empty possession after possession...after another Jazz three, two, free throw...it became VERY discouraging. Fans were anxious...agitated (no booing though). The last 3 minutes were tough to watch. Another perspective: During "the golden era" we had fast breaks, we had alley-oops galore, we had 3 pointers from Van Horn, Kittles, Lucious Harris, even Kidd. It was FUN to be in the arena. Now, the team is getting, well, mechanical. We get excited over a Harris cross over and ankle-breaking move, but it just isn't the same caliber of energy. And when the team isn't hitting 3's...another crowd pleaser...and not blocking shots...another crowd pleaser...not dropping thunderous dunks or tossing alley oops...it just doesn't provide the energy even a smallish crowd of people need. Us rabid fans will always cheer. But, don't we need some help from our players to give everyone something to get excited about?
real fans cheer for the team. Your team isn't going to be good every year. Especially when your in a rebuilding stage. Real fans cheer for the team, thats why they are called the 12th man in football. Every home team should have a chance to win because fans can change momentum. Fans can inspire. Swamp fans can only put teams to sleep. Total shame.
Whenever I go to the game I try to bring as much energy as possible. You can only control how you act, so if you want the crowd to be louder, go to the game and shout your lungs out. You may look foolish, but hey, at least you did your part.
I think you split it down the middle. Why pay for a gam when you aren't going to cheer for your favourite team, while you can't always be cheering when you are down by 20 consistantly so it works hand in hand.
This was my feeling last year. You just knew the effort wasn't there. And I actually made this exact comment many times: I don't mind a team that plays hard and loses.
This is how I am. Last night, in a section that was 1/4 full, I was the only one yelling, cheering. I've actually gone to the game alone and done it. I get tons of looks and stares, but don't give a shit. When the team is competing, they deserve the support and recognition.
I always had this crazy idea about making some kind of group (Barra Brava)for the Nets that's going to go to the games, chant songs, be loud etc. I'm used to seeing great atmospheres in football (soccer), and it makes me depressed seing the fans at Izod everytime I go there Nets fan should get together, and make something happen for our team!
