If we were to trade Jay BAy... I think that some we should be lookin' for are... Devin Harris (would have to give up a lot more), Westbrook, Stuckey or a 1st rounder and look for someone like Curry maybe. But we have to have the roster to allow them to be the backup PG for us. wha? Their GM would get run out of the city if he did this... It would HAVE to be Raef, Rudy and Bayless for Nash. And I dont think we could get Nash until this off-season or if they are out of the playoff race by the trade deadline (highly doubtful). They just made a trade that indicates they are looking to compete NOW. Maybe this off-season if they decide to go another way we can try to pry him away for cheaper, and since we will have cap space we can take more salary than we give out.
I like Lee a lot, but I thought he is starting to want starter minutes? If he wouldn't complain about coming off the bench, I would do that trade in a heartbeat.
I'm not worried about this at all. KP knows how to play his cards and Bayless can pout all he wants, we have a good team and he's going to have to learn to run the offense and make his open jumpers. Bayless should see increased playing time next year and really we can all relate to him. Hes ultra competitive and in a situation where he isn't given an opportunity to help his team. He's worked long and hard to make it to the NBA and now his role on the team is basically that of a towel boy, he goes in when the game is decided to mop up the carnage. I'm willing to make a bet with anyone that KP will not trade Bayless, KP has shown that he has a plan and hes sticking to it, and unfortuantly part of that plan was Bayless waiting a year to get meaningful minutes. That said if Bayless's rumblings get louder it may force KP to trade one of the other PG's sooner than he'd wish if he feels its effecting team chemestry. As far as I'm concerned let the rookie cry and pout, Sergio and Blake have proven they deserve PT and with the Blazers luck one of them will get injured and some PT will open up for Bayless.
You think so? If Bayless' rumblings get louder, I think he would be the one traded, not the other PGs. They are better than him right now at that position. He may be trying to see where pouting gets him though, as it worked for others.
I think I agree with your position, although your question could be taken two ways. The answer is some combination of "because he complements the other starters best" and "because Travis sucks with the starters" and "because SF matters a lot less than PG". I don't understand why people think Bayless will work at PG. Did they actually watch him play in Summer League and College? I've said it before and I'll say it again - his natural instinct is to play like Corey Maggette. If he passes the ball it's because he's been told to, and it doesn't come naturally. I don't think he can ever be converted into a useful PG - even one playing next to Roy. He really is Jarrett Jack on steroids, and we found out that Jarrett and Roy could only play together in limited minutes. (Except Jarrett was actually a better teammate and had "intangibles".) Bayless is destined to be a volume scorer on a bad team.
I say this rates a big whatever. No quotes from anyone that matters and Jerryd is under contract for years. He wants more PT??? So does most every player who isn't logging 30+MPG so that would be expected. I'd note that dude has been aware that the way minutes are being doled out was the likely scenario going into the season which he said he'd be fine with and that he's been getting a little more burn as of late. But considering he's barely played, whats surprising about anonymous executives from other clubs questioning whether he'll blend well with Roy? I'm thinking he was asked something along the lines of..."Obviously Portland is stacked deep with young talent, you aren't playing much and there are a lot of trade rumors swirling... how would you feel about it if you were moved?"... and then he responded diplomatically that he doesn't control whether he's traded or not but that he'd welcome the opportunity to play more. When Portland is relevant in the NBA, I completely expect the national media to They benefit by other clubs fans thinking that they've a chance of swooping in and looting the Blazers talent from the links that are clicked and the commercial breaks that are waited through hoping to hear the latest. Why wouldn't Brousard relay the exact quote other then it deflates his scoop? STOMP
If you guys think KP would keep Blake or Sergio over Bayless you're crazy. As much as KP loves his chemistry, he loves his talent just as much. Bayless is too good of a talent to just let go. I don't expect him to go anywhere. Just my opinion.
Maybe some kinda three way deal between Minnesota and Charlotte? Something along the line of the Wolves sending McCants and Collins to Charlotte, who in turn sends Gerald Wallace to Portland....who sends Bayless and filler to Minnesota
KP is building for the future, push come to shove he will choose Bayless over Blake. The only variable that could happen is that KP starts to think that our Future PG is Sergio and not Bayless or Blake which would then throw a wrench into my whole theory.
Yes, I have watched almost every game of Bayless in College and he is the perfect fit for PG along side Roy IMO. Also Bayless is better in almost all aspects of their game. He is a better shooter, defender, passer and can drive and create his shot much better then Jack. I think Jack would have been a pretty good PG next to Roy if he didn't turn the ball over on fast breaks so much. Just remember when Bayless blows up and is a star PG on another team that I told you so.
Nate starts two rookies, has another in Rudy who plays 26 mpg, had Roy as Rookie of the Year in 06-07, and the thought by some is that Nate has something against rookies. Gee, it couldn't be that Bayless can't beat out Blake, Sergio, Roy, or Rudy for minutes at this stage of his career, could it? If Bayless is already yapping about minutes on a team that is 16-10, I say ship him to Milwaukee or some other dead-end organization so he can get "burn" and grab the 8th seed in the playoffs every third year of his career.
Bayless probably told Chris that he wants to play, and CB took it and ran with it as he wants to be traded. Bayless is an intense guy, he wants to play. Cant say I blame him and I hope all the guys on our roster have that fire and passion. If they didnt want to play, then we'd have a problem.
Of course Bayless wants more playing time, I'm sure Channing and Ike want more too. They're competitors. But a rookie has absolutely no pull at all unless they're someone like Kobe. Plus he's just starting out, if you have a guy demanding a trade after a total of 26 NBA games you don't want him anyway because he's an idiot. He'd just get himself started with a bad reputation as a prima donna and locker room cancer. Wanting or talking about wanting more playing time is completely different than wanting to leave the team. I think Broussard is just trying to stir things up to get noticed and get people talking.
You know one thing to bring up is the fact that every time in the past that the Blazers have started to play pretty good, is writers from other cities start looking for where they can peel off talent to improve the teams they are interested in. I am sure Chris would love it if Bayless were unhappy and traded to the team he covers. It isn't going to happen though.
I dunno I think they would with this draft class. If Bayless was still in school, he could be a runner for #2 behind Blake Griffin.
