I wouldn't mind bringing the Roy/CP3 discussion back up when I said I would keep Roy. I wonder if anyone has changed their mind. Not that they should, but just curious.
But would you take 4 years of Kobe over 10 years of Roy? If I were starting a franchise now, I'd rather have the 10 years of Roy. (I used years to age 34, at which point I'd expect a player to be in decline.)
Do you think you could win more championships with Kobe or Roy. With Kobe you have that chance every year to win a championship. Like, he carries the team on his back. You could win, with a pretty good team, 2 championships in those 4 years...at least.
if i have roy, i wouldn't trade him for kobe(of course it works the other way as well). the only player i'd definitely trade roy for with absolutely no thought is lebron. and after some consideration i may trade him for wade as well. but that's it. as for just picking between the two, right now as everything stands(age and everything) roy has to be the choice. picking between them as same age players for their career kobe is the choice. they have a chance every year as it stand with roy. so i'd rather have a shot over 10 years than a shot(even a better one) over 4. i would still stick with roy.
yup...but of course this is an unfair question Who would you pick...a 35 year old Jordan or a 27 year old Kobe? Kobe>MJ
But what you're missing is the fact that Oden, LMA and others are ready to compete for the championship right now. So, take a couple years off of the 4 with Kobe and it changes things. Basically, if Oden and LMA develop over the next couple years, and get to the point where they would support a superstar contending for a championship, it is really: In 2 years: LMA and Oden still short of their prime. Roy nearing his prime years, Kobe in his prime In 4 years: Oden still short of his prime, LMA nearing his prime, Roy in his prime, Kobe at the end of prime In 6 years: Oden entering his prime, LMA in his prime, Roy in his prime, Kobe retired So the choice becomes: (a) Kobe in his prime, but nobody else in their prime for 2 years. Then Kobe at the end of his prime with others just entering their prime for 2 years. or (b) Roy, LMA and Oden all in their prime years for about 6 years. I'll take (b)
To build a team around? Didn't Jordan retire at 36? I know he came back in his late 30's... Kobe is not Jordan. He never will be Jordan. Kobe is a great player, but he is not MJ. Jordan would not have let his team lose in the Finals like Kobe did.
It's not an unfair question. The question is not "Who is the superior talent?" It's "Who would you rather have now, age factored in?" That's a perfectly fair question, it's just different from who's more talented. The fact that it's quite reasonable to take Roy, due to age, shows how good he's become. With most players, you'd still rather have Kobe, no matter what the age difference.
Btw, where is that Bulls fan that said it would take Roy+Aldridge for the Blazers to get Derrick Rose? I'd like to know why the Blazers would want to give up Roy for Rose period. Why exactly would the Blazers do that?
Roy, and it's not really even a contest. If you're building a team, it will take you a couple of years to even make it to the playoffs, let alone contend. When you're ready to contend, you want a 4-years-from-now-Kobe?
It's not even a contest? Really? Not even close? lmfao wow. Roy this year - PPG 23.4 RPG 4.60 APG 5.2 EFF+ 22.33 Bryant this year - PPG 25.0 RPG 5.40 APG 4.3 EFF+ 22.75 Not even a contest huh? Geez.
Like, Roy doesn't carry his team on his back? How come Kobe hasn't won a single championship without Shaq with his "pretty good team" ? And how can you ppl say you would take Bryant if they were the same age? You already know what Bryant is going to become. Exactly what he is now, which is not much better then Roy is right now. See above post. But you DON'T know what Roy is going to become. So that defense is retarded.
