I have been reading a lot of Gerald Wallace rumors lately, and Charlotte is obviously in trade mode. ESPN is saying they offered Wallace to the Kings for Brad Miller. Am I the only one who thinks he would be a great fit here? I love Batum, but Wallace is already where he aspires to be. Maybe a Frye/Outlaw package could get the job done? Thoughts?
Well besides the fact that numbers dont work out...Is there ever gonna be a thread like this where you guys will ever think you actually have to give up one of your good players to get a good player? I dont think Ive heard Roy, Oden, or LMA name in any fantasy trade proposal in here or bbf.....ever
is there any need to when rumors of them offering wallace for Brad freakin Miller are flying around? BM is having a terrible season and is a shadow of where he used to be, and besides.... it wouldn't be a pritchslap if we didnt screw them, right?
The thing is, Portland is flush with too many young "upside" players (Batum, Bayless, Fernandez, Outlaw, etc.) and it's not like Wallace is some super-star (yes, he's very, very good) so most trade proposals people post around here center on packaging up some of those upside players with Raef's 80% insured expiring deal. I do think the Raef+scrubs (like Frye, Diogu, Rodriguez) proposals are kind of silly, but unless we're talking about trading for an all-star caliber player I see almost no reason to include Roy, LMA or Oden.
what are you talking about?! a lot of people here would trade Roy for LeBron, Aldridge for Wade, or Oden for Howard. There I just purposed fantasy trades with those players. Happy. Also, I Gerald Wallace would be a dream to land, but I think we would have to give up more than that, but I certainly dont think it would take any of the big three.
Brad Miller is 12 million coming off the books after next year...He is was teams want if you want to be a contender for top talent in the crazy 2010 FA class
Fair enough, but Raef is 13 million coming off the books this year and after game 41 his contract is insured for 80%. There are plenty of cash strapped teams in this league with piss poor revenue and attendance in the current economy who might be willing to trade as much for business as basketball related reasons.
I just threw out Outlaw/Frye as it was the first thing that came to mind. I would be willing to give up more. Mainly, I was just wondering what everyone thought about him fitting in with the team. He just might be the "big move" that we go for with Raef's contract, and I would be very happy with that.
I was waiting for this and honestly you dont fully understand the situation if you are bringing it up. A couple things since I dont want to go into an in depth explanation on why that wasnt a bad trade for Memphis: 1. Does Memphis really care about making the Lakers better? No. Was Memphis planning to compete with the Lakers within 2-3 years? No. My point is its irrelevant to them how them giving up Pau affects the rest of the NBA. Their focus should and was on putting themselves in the best position they could for their goals. 2. Talent had NOTHING to do with the trade when it came to Kwame. Kwame was one of if not the biggest expiring contract of a player who could/had a chance to be moved. So they set themselves up for the future. Euro MVP Marc Gasol is doing very well. It was all about cap space for Memphis and the Lakers and Kwame could accomidate them the best.
Thats who you guys should be focusing on brainstorming trade proposals around. I envision a 30 page thread within the next 2 months about the awesome player you got in return for him....seriously

Since you seem to have so much knowledge on the subject, don't you think that Charlotte might be trying to do the same thing that Memphis did? They just traded J-Rich, for lesser players. What makes you think that we would need to give up one of our top guys for Gerald when they are obviously making moves for the future and cutting their losses right now?
I understand how you might of been confused with what I said. I wasnt implying you had to give up Roy, Oden or LMA for Wallace...that was just a general statement about trade proposals Ive seen over the last year on POR boards. I think you are right about the Bobcats...so wouldnt you agree that Brad Miller is more appetizing than what you guys could offer...except Raef! Salaries dont match but build a trade around Raef and Wallace and now you guys are talking.
It wasn't a bad trade for Memphis, it was flat out terrible. That's why you had the rest of the league questioning wtf Memphis was doing. You had Popovich clamoring for a trade committee, you had George Karl calling it a Christmas gift. And you think Chris Wallace knows what he's doing? He just signed Darius Miles as part of their supposed 'rebuilding' project. lol. You think Bosh, LeBron, Wade, or any big-time FA wants to sign with Memphis and their cap space? You don't trade an All-Star caliber player like Gasol for 'just' cap space. That's ridiculous... If anyone thinks this was a good trade for Memphis... I wouldn't doubt it's a Laker fan.
Popovich was a fucking idiot. He was bitter about the Lakers being a lot better fast. You think he really mulled over Memphis's situation at the time to see how it affected them??? Fuck no he didnt. Karl was right, the stars aligned for it to happen but that doesnt mean it didnt make sense to both parties
Yes I agree that they would probably want an expiring contract. I hope for their sake that they aren't just catering to Larry Brown, he still hasn't reached his goal of coaching every NBA team yet.
I have to join in the chorus of people who are wondering what the hell you're talking about in this thread. Portland could take on Wallace and give up Outlaw and Frye. Outlaw and Frye are both expiring no later than 09-10 and are $7.8m next year combined. Charlotte would get a couple of your players to take for a test drive while dramatically improving their cap flexibility. Add Shavlik in as filler and the trade works, I believe. Ed O.
Personally I think our SF needs to be able to spread the floor. Wallace's 22% from beyond the arc does not excite me.
