Obviously, there are at least nine teams that are probably good enough to make the playoffs in the West this year. But they can't all make it... yet lots of people see the Blazers making it. So who misses?

    I would guess Dallas.

Heh. Same question I asked Kevin Pritchard at the meet and greet that ABM arranged earlier this fall. He dodged the question, sayin that his crystal ball wasn't working (probably didn't want to risk giving any other team bulletin board fodder). My guess would be Dallas.

Dallas doesn't have enough firepower in the loaded West unless they make a significant trade. They start Devean George, who might be the worst starter in the NBA.

A week ago I would have said the Suns, but I think Richardson has made them at least a credible threat to get to the post season.

As for now, I'm going to say Dallas; Kidd is going to break down this season.

First team in the 3-9 positions to get hit with a major injury.

Blazers won't be any worse than the 4th seed so this question isn't relevant. I can't believe how many dumb people there are out there that think the Blazers will be lucky to make the playoffs, if they even make it at all. 4th seed at worse.

I think the injury statement is a good one - but I would put a finer point on it.

I believe the Suns will break down due to injury, or just general wear-and-tear, over the next few months. Either Nash or Shaq will miss a bunch of games, or limp through, and cause themselves to miss the playoffs.

The Mavericks could certainly miss the playoffs, too. It'll be an interesting matchup between Portland and Dallas on X-Mas.

    Who's number two? New Orleans?

As for who will miss, well it's obvious to say it's Dallas because they happen to be 9th at the time, but there are others who could miss. Phoenix could miss. Denver could miss.

With no major injuries, Dallas is out of the pitcture.

However, if Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Brandon Roy, Carmelo Anthony, or Amare Stoudemire go down for a major part of the season, Dallas re-enters the picture.

OK- if I have to name a second team with decent opportunity to miss the playoffs, it's definitely Phoenix, probably followed by the Nuggs.

I think the Jizz have the depth to survive a stint w/o one of their main guys, as do the Blazers, Houston and San Antonio. Now that Phoenix has traded some depth away in the Richardson swap, If Shaq or Nash miss even a few games, they could be out of the picture in a hurry.

I think our team matches up very well with the Hornet. I was at the Blazer/ Hornets game and we beat them and shut Paul down. The Hornet don't want us in the playoffs. If Oden comes alive, Chandler becomes a road bump. Rudy can't wait to show up Peja and then it comes down to Paul vs Roy on who wants it more. Right now I think the edge goes to ROY! Our bench is better than theirs too!

As for UTAH we know they are only good at home. If the Blazers have a better record at the end UTAH can't beat us, not with ROY getting the treatment he gets now.

Teams I don't want: Lakers, Suns, Spurs or Nuggs

Mixum does have a point. We COULD be the ones that miss the playoffs if teams like the Suns and Mavs start clicking. Plus, the Mavs have been playing better than they did at the start of the season.

It's going to be close, but I have a feeling that Dallas will be the ones to fall off unless they make some moves.

That's the understatement of the year.

You show your love in a weird way by being negative 99 percent of the time.

What about us currently being No. 5 in the West? No team is 100 percent better than anyone else anyway, except Boston, and possibly Cleveland and LA.
