Anyone else think Joe Smith starting at the 4 might actually turn us from a borderline playoff team (7-8ish) to a safe one (4-5ish)? Presti's no fool, but we still might be able to pawn off Sean Williams on him with Krstic for Joe Smith.

I hope they get something for Krstic and not lose him for nothing. I wouldn't even mind having him back.

I posted this in another thread but what do you guys think of these moves to boost the Nets to another level in the East?

Nets trade: Bobby Simmons, Stromile Swift, Sean Williams

    Raptors trade: Jermaine O'Neal

Raptors save like 10 million after this season and take a chance on Sean Williams.

Nets trade: Yi Jianlian, Trenton Hassell, Mo Ager, 1st round protected pick

    Wizards trade: Caron Butler

Nets either match the offer from the Thunder on Krstic or sign and trade him for something.

    Lineup:

    Harris/Dooling
    Carter/Hayes/CDR
    Butler/Najera
    O'Neal/Anderson
    Krstic/Lopez/Boone

I think the Nets still come in under the luxury tax.

I don't see that as a realistic trade, NOMAM. Personally though, I think it's just been my "don't want O'neal" train of thought I've had since the Nets may have been intersted in him in the first place.

As a matter of fact, I personally don't want Krstic as a Net, either. A sign and trade would be ideal. Any of the players NI mentioned, I wouldn't mind on the Nets, especially Smith. Krstic, Williams, and (if need be, throw in ) Ager for Watson, Smith, and Petro? Would that work?

You honestly think that Joe Smith, a declining player, averaging 7 and 4.5 is going to start over Yi, a promising prospect, and in turn upgrade the Nets?

I wouldn't mind dropping Ager and adding Watson. I love Dooling but you just never know with injuries.

I hope they can get something back for him. That second round pick could be good, since as the article said there is a very good chance that it'll be the first pick of the second round.

I don't know if they'd want to give him up. They don't have any other PG on the roster...I think they'd be more inclined to move one of their bigs first, especially since they are bringing another one in with Krstic.

I'm sure teams are lining up right now to somehow get the nets 10th, 11th, and 12th player for someone who starts.

It's to save 10 million next season and gain a young big. Then again, thinking about it some more, the Knicks (Marbury's contract) or Heat (Marion's contract) or Cavs (Wally's contract)could offer bigger savings.

Watson would add so much depth to our backcourt...I hope Thorn pulls this off.

Terrible move by the Thunder to consider a sign-and-trade. The Thunder are pretty much guaranteed that 31st pick, which is actually sort of valuable. There are always players who slide to the second round and the Thunder will have first dibs. Krstic is solid but he's a proven commodity and apparently might still be injured. He's more of an asset to a team looking to actually compete this year - not a team fighting to avoid the worst record in NBA history. If I'm Thunder management I look to keep every draft pick.

Krstic is better than Yi. Post skills, confidence, court sense - it's no contest.

He has been given a chance and has not played well. Krstic was a pretty good shooter himself and did a better job on all sides of the ball. Basically, he was doing everything the Nets hoped Yi would do.

kristich could nt play thats why he does not play in NBA YI made it on to a team he is better. Nets choosing YI did not choosing Krstich.

Huh? Krstic could play and averaged 16/7 with the Nets a few years ago. I guess there was more money for him overseas which he is not in the NBA. Honestly, I'll take an injured Krstic over a healthy Yi. They'll probably have a similar impact.

Barring Krstic coming back for the Nets at his previous level, the 2nd rounder is the way to go. Or if someone's doing a fire sale on a Gasol or KG type player...

Guys like Joe Smith might have some gas left in the tank, but they're nothing close to "the piece" to put the Nets over the top.

I'd take the 31st pick in the draft.
