Here is a list of larger salaries from the 6 teams you listed that are at least one more seasons after this one. I will not distinguish by quality, this is just a list. Sac Kevin Martin 8.7mil, 5 year, BYC Brad Miller, 11.7 mil, 2 year Kenny Thomas, 8.5mil, 2 year Memphis (very low salary) Milicic, 7 mil, 2 year Jaric, 6mil, 3 year Charlotte Boris Diaw, 9mil, 3 year (Trade Restriction) Emeka Okafor, 9mil, 6 year, BYC Gerald Wallace 9 mil, 4 year Minnesota Al, 11mil, 5 year BYC Mike Miller, 9mil, 2 year Philadelphia Brand, 13mil, 5 y Dalembert, 11mil, 3y Iguodala, 11mil, 6y, BYC Indiana Mike Dunleavy, 9mil, 3y TJ Ford, 8mil, 2 yy Troy Murphy, 10mil, 3year Tinsley, 6mil, 3 The problem is that these 6 teams that have the lowest attendance have already gotten rid of a lot of their higher salary players or have expiring contracts of their own to help them with relief. But I could see the 6ers or the bobcats making some financial moves for sure.
I wouldn't freak out if the Blazers spent some of their cap room on going after Mike Bibby this off-season (depending on his asking price).
PER is only one way to look at PG's. I like what we've got, and what we've got in reserve (Koponnen), and I'd only deal for future draft picks to keep improving at PG. Don't like sloppy seconds, or 3rds and 4ths, as some of these players represent. Bake it!
Billups has been traded several times. I guess he's sloppy 4ths or whatever and wouldn't help us. Bake it? What's the oven timer set to? The year 2050?
Nice list GOD. Of those players, I still think G Wallace makes the most sense. Not that he is the only good player those teams have, but he seems like the best "fit."
I have never been the biggest Bibby fan, and have always preferred Billups over him. Since Billups is probably not available, is Bibby a good second choice? Maybe, but I don't think Bibby at this point in his career is what you want for the team's one shot with their cap space. I want both a better player and a younger player. Rather than signing Bibby with cap space, I would look to make a lopsided trade for a vet already under contract.
True story... the day of the draft I was joking around with a co-worker who's also a Blazer fan and I told him we were going to try something new in the draft. Instead of the best available player we're going to draft Rodney Stuckey and see what happens. We both laughed about it... until the play offs.
