I'm surprised there isn't more excitement about the win. It was against the division leader, and I don't think Blazers are in a position to assume a win over a division leader . . . even with the whole back-to back same team thing. Maybe it will even boil down to these to teams. Utah loses in Milwaukie and I know there is Milsap, but Utah takes a big hit with this strange injury that leaves Boozer out indefintely. Anyways, a big interdivision win both for standing purposes and statement purposes. Blazers are approaching the mid-season in a heated race for the division lead and entrenched as one of the 9 teams in the playoff hunt. Good season so far . . .
As do the posters who claim ad-nauseum that he's a horrible defender, when he's actually better than our other guards on defense most nights. I just try to balance out things a bit. I recognize the areas he needs to work on but don't mention them as others take care of that on a regular basis. Mostly, like Greg and Jeryd, he just needs regular playing time and the latitude to make mistakes without getting benched. I believe he's the best PG prospect we've ever had and I'm used to others shouting me down until I'm proven correct. And, as usual, I AM correct.
Someone call me an ambulance, I just thought I read something that said that Sergio is the best PG prospect we have ever had. I think I am having a hallucination. Wait, feel better. Just realized that Maris is his agent. Why wouldn't a player have his agent or someone close to him talk him up on a message board? Holy crap.
Okay Maris - that's enough. I've listened to your Sergio jock riding banter for a while. Terry Porter lives in infamy in my (and many other Blazer fan's) mind. You tell me Sergio is better than Blake and I dissagree, but to a certain extent - it's at least debatable. This assertion is just wacko.
I don't know what Porter did to be infamous, but I think you might agree with my idea that Maris must be his agent because that makes the most sense.
Wrong. Sergio has a Defensive Rating of 111 playing against 2nd stingers. Blake has a Defensive Rating of 112 playing against starters - like Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Additionally, Blake has a Offensive Rating of 123. Which means he's a net +11. Sergio has an offensive rating of 103, for a net of -8. Sergio is a horrible defender, but I agree he's not the only one. We don't have a guard on the roster with a defensive rating below 110. BNM
He was a great prospect. I like how the earlier poster used the rationalization that since Sergio is marginally better than crap PG prospects like Telfair, he must be a legitimate prospect for a winning team. That's flawed logic. It simply means we don't draft PGs well.
So, a guy who has a career .380 FG%, a career 0.298 3FG%, can't play defense and turns the ball over at a rate that would embarrass Jarrett Jack* is the best PG prospect in the history of this franchise? Seriously, he's not even the best PG prospect on the roster, let alone in the history of the franchise. * TO/36 min Jarrett Jack: 2007-08 - 2.9 2008-09 - 2.7 Career - 2.6 Sergio Rodriguez: 2007-08 - 3.0 2008-09 - 3.3 Career - 3.2 Let me guess, you were a big Omar Cook fan, too. BNM
Um... A/To: Sergio 3.3 Jack: 1.7 Perhaps that's the number that embarrasses Jack. I'm a big Steve Nash fan. Not to back up Maris's claim, b/c I don't agree with that. But if you attempt to bring Jack into this discussion, you're really setting yourself up.
To Sergio's credit his assist to turnover ratio isn't bad at 2.8, that's just the style of ball he plays -- high risk, high reward. What's funny to me is Maris' admission that he only talks about Sergio's positives as if that somehow balances out the negatives other people throw out about him. In any case I was happy with the offensive spark Sergio provided tonight, it was desperately needed tonight, but it still doesn't make him a starter or the best point guard prospect in Blazers history; right now he's just the most creative passing, point guard prospect, in Blazers history (arguable).
I'm hoping that Greg is taking some advice from Joel because lately it seems like his game has regressed a little. He needs to keep his head in the game on not go for so many pump fakes, etc. I want to be patient with him, but I also want to see him succeed so badly right now.
Sorry Boob, TO's taken by themselves are meaningless, or Nash and Kidd would be working in a car wash.
