Well I just read over on hoopshype that Captain Jack wants out of Don Nelsons reign of terror. I think he could help bring a bit of that nasty veteran leadership that Portland needs. He has championship and playoff experience, is a scorer, and can play D. The only bad side, is the Detroit/Indian Brawl he took part in a couple of years back.

He seems to be a good citizen now-a-days - and he can provide offense and defense. He would definitely be an upgrade in the SF position.

The question is - what do we need to give to get him?

I go back and forth on him. I think his character issues are a little overblown. I think he is a great teammate, almost to a fault. He's one of those guys that hsa your back no matter what. Unfortunately, sometimes "no matter what" is you against the Palace at Auburn Hills. He plays D and is a talent. My main concern is when he goes into chucker mode, where he just dribbles for 20 seconds, not looking to do anything or go anywhere, and then lofts up shots. Today, I think he would be a good addition. Tomorrow, I might rethink. All depends on the cost, I suppose.

Yea I wonder right now how much of that "chucker" mode is due to how bad of a team he is on right now. He is also playing Nelsons system, which tends to cause a lot of bad shots to get put up. You can look back to his days with San Antonio and Indiana, and he was a very effective half court player. His open court skills would surely be welcomed here in Portland, we need more fast break guys on this team.

Bayless/Outlaw/Sergio/w/e else for Ellis and Jackson

I usually hate making trade ideas like this, but I just couldn't help myself.

I don't get why he signs a fat contract extension about a little over a month ago and then welcomes a trade. I like his game, but that move makes me think he's a bit of a malcontent.

Yea but you are on the right track in many ways. Whatever Portland does, if it does anything, should be a multiple player for one. I am guessing one of the PF types (Frye or Diogu) is in the deal, and we also have to remember we have one chip to throw in that nobody else can:

    Raef Lafrentz.

Maybe a few players and a huge expiring contract gets it done?

Nvm, I did not realize how much $ Ellis and Jackson make and how long their contracts are.

A simple Outlaw and Diogu for Jackson works salary wise. They get out of a long term extension, and get a decent young player in outlaw who could thrive in a chucker open court system. I'd make that deal I think.

At the same time, I imagine GS would be able to get better offers than that for him.

Good point about LaFrentz, I keep forgetting about how appealing his contract could be to some teams. He's certainly a big factor.

Steven Jackson?? Are you out of your mind? Anyone who shoots a gun off in a parking lot with innocent people around is an idiot. That act was worse than any "Jail Blazer" moment EVER. because it risked the lives of innocent people. I would not take him for free. You just can't depend on stupid people.

God it sucks that the Warriors are going to have to lose on the talent side of a deal just to free up money that they just spent this year!

    Worst franchise in professional sports.

It is so sad that a deal like Ellis/Jax for Raef would actually be considered by the Warriors. And we'll probably have to give you Randolph or Wright too.

Would you say the Warriors are thinking about moving Ellis? As much as I like Bayless, I'd involve him in any deal that has Ellis in it.

    Bayless/LaFrentz/Outlaw for _____________________

In his defense, he's been a model citizen since then. He's also a great scorer and assist man at the wing spot.

I guess Nellie's act doesn't fly well with veteran players. Davis bolted in part because of it, now Jackson sounds like he could be tired.

Yes. But I am comfortable being insane. Just remember, it is the folks who can't handle being insane and who go postal who make the rest of us look bad!

Actually... I wouldn't mind getting Jackson. He's certainly got a bad rep, but he's tried to clean it up lately. It'd have to be a big selling point by KP and the gang to try to convince the fans that he's worth it.
But I think he'd make a good fit at SF. He's a guy that could either be a nice complementary player to Roy and can be a top option when Roy's out.

I don't know if you want Jackson after his contract extension. Perhaps before the extension he would be worth the interest. But his contract is too long, I'd think, for the Blazers to be very interested in him.

The contract deals with Maggette, Jackson, and Nelson have all been starting to bite the Warriors in the rear.

But as a Warriors fan, I'd be interested in getting some players from the Blazers for Jackson. But I am a bit skeptical in if anything would work out.

He's only making 10 million per year. Not chump change, but not overpriced for a guy averaging 18.6 points, 4.4 boards and 6 assists.
