I've been playing it for four or five hours, now. I have some serious quarrels with the game and I don't know if I will be able to do another 30+ hours to finish it. 50/50 at this point.

I will, but I want to give it more of a chance first. I'll put in more time and hopefully post a review before the weekend.

I got the Demon Spawn title, but I'm not sure exactly what level it is. I'll check later.

You sound like a friend of mine. He hated the game when he first started playing it. Part of the reason was that he was playing in 3rd person (moron), and that seemed to be the cause of most of his issues. However, he's since had a change of heart and enjoys the game now.

I'm officially over 20 hours in this game. I've loved every minute of it and constantly want to go back and play some more. Fallout 3 is slowly consuming my life it seems.

3rd person is horrible, I agree. The ads made it seem like playing in 3rd person was an option. I only use it when traveling.

Hopefully it's like drinking and I just need to get over the hump.

Stealing, killing innocents, enslaving people, blowing up Megaton....

Ok, I gave up on it. It went into my trade for Gears 2 today.

I don't need to write a prolonged, whiny review of it. I'm sure other people are really enjoying the game. I just want to explain why because I mentioned earlier in the thread I had some gripes with it and at least one person is interested in hearing them. I'm sure some of you will love the game, I'm just explaining why I don't.

My primary complaint about the game is that there really isn't anything new in this game. If you've played an RPG in the past, you've played Fallout 3. Sorry. Tedious inventory management? Check. Doing repetitive, menial tasks so you can "level up" in skills that are largely pointless? Check. Running around a big area with no sense of purpose or direction? Check. I've never liked the concept of creating your own fun gaming experience. It just feels lazy--on the part of the developer. If you have something cool to show me, don't make me grind for ten hours on bullshit to see it. Just do it already.

My second complaint is that the game looks like crap. Don't be fooled by the reviews. I think online video game reviewers live in an alternate reality. Bethesda can't make a realistic face or body model worth a damn--frankly, they've never been able to. And they know it, too--the in-game cut sequences are zoomed out to hide it. Also, the environments are nothing new. Urban decay is pretty much standard for any non-medieval video game these days. Everything is the same gray, bombed-out look. Busted concrete, cracked asphalt, etc., etc.. Fits in with the story, I get it, but it is no treat for the eyes. Also, people and monsters in the game glide around like they have hover boots. Don't even bother playing the game in third person unless you really want to see how poorly Bethesda has made basic movement look. Shameful for a game that is practically a 2009 release. I know someone will be thinking that with a game this big, you have to make graphical sacrifices. Well if GTAIV can do it, why can't Fallout?

Third, the combat is terrible. At best it is a second-rate FPS. At worst it is broken. The lauded VATS system--where you pause the game and target specific body parts in sequence, then watch your character miss them all--is a cover-up. Without it combat would be almost impossible. Manual targeting is poor, everything moves erratically, your weapons are mostly inaccurate and ineffective, and the speed of the game never feels consistent. And having to pause to order your actions is like playing Final Fantasy Tactics. Is this game an FPS or not? Needless to say combat in third person is broken and impossible.

I don't know. Maybe I expected something else. It just seems like realism > fun is the formula they had for this one.

So I'm at about the 35 hour mark and I know I'm about done with the main quest (thanks to Mr. Players Guide), and I'm still loving it. Speaking of the main quest....it just took a couple crazy and unexpected turns over the course of the last couple main quest sections. To say the least, I can't get enough of this game and I don't want it to end...which is why I'm going to mess around on sidequests here shortly...so I DON'T get to the end.

Just beat the game a little bit ago...wow. What a fucking game. Easily the game of the year and one of my favorites of all time. I won't spoil anything in regards to how it ends or any of the plot twists, but it's damn good.

As far as length...it took me just under 40 hours...I think about 38ish hours, to beat. I ended at level 17 out 20. However, of the 100+ locales in the game...I only discovered 47..so I was really only scratching the surface of what's in this game. I now have full intentions on going through and beating the game as a good or neutral character, seeing as how I was an evil, rotten bastard this time through. I'm also gonna work on discovering more this time through. But yea, damn good game, now that I've beaten it, I can 100% say that it is worth every penny you could spend on it and it's a game you'll want to play again.

I'm playing this game on my PC right now.

I've made it to Megaton and got the quest of getting food and medicine supplies for the research book. I'm gonna continue the game when i get back home.

If anything, the story of the game sounds very good so far, but my PC isn't handling the game well.

I didn't take that risk Hence why I'm getting it for 360

Yeah definitely get it for PS3 or 360.

One thing i like about this game is the RPG aspect of it, but i don't really know how well it'll factor into the game since i haven't played that much.

The RPG elements HEAVILY factor in the game. For example...if you have a low small guns skills, you're going to suck with them. It'll take you 7 or 8 shots to take out a lot of things. Once you raise that up, you become more adept at using them and killing things becomes easier. Lets take Super Mutants for an example. It used to take probably 6 or 7 shots of any of my guns to kill them. Once I got my small guns skills around 80, I was taking them out in a couple shots with a variety of weapons.

Another example is the repair skill. The higher you have that, the better condition weapons are when you get them, and also the more you can repair them. Medecine is another good example. The higher your meds skills, the more you get out of stimpacks.

Got this yesterday and I'm loving it, it basically is Oblivion just set in the future and a little bit more scary

I wouldn't quite call it a futuristic version of Oblivion. Gameplay wise, somewhat, but character building was done a lot better in Fallout 3 than in Oblivion.
