I wrote this article/slideshow. Check it out. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/97053-5-hopes-and-wishes-for-the-golden-state-warriors
My five wishes... 1. Superstar at PG 2. Superstar at SG 3. Superstar at SF 4. Superstar at PF 5. Superstar at C... OK, bit more serious note. 5. Playing time for Wright: I can live without Randolph's playing time this year, since he is a rookie and has number of crucial weaknesses. But, Wright is more ready to play, and probably the best PF we have at this point. 4. Superstar through 2009 draft pick: Aren't we due to pick a superstar? 3. New coach or superstar: Like many well established coaches, Nelson will be a great coach when he has a superstar, and 08-09 Warriors will happen when he doesn't have one. He is clearly frustrated, because we are not winning, and he seems to vent his frustration on young and inexperienced players. Nothing good will happen to those young players in this circumstance. 2. Fire Rowell: I am not too sure whether Rowell really is in power, or he is a figurehead for Nelson. However, we are pretty sure that he had major influence on Davis, Maggette, and Jackson situations, which killed the present, and will kill the future with his signings. I didn't think any Warriors GM would do worse job than Twerdzik till Mullin ver. 1 stepped in. Then, I never thought any GM would damage the franchise like Mullin ver. 1 did. I was wrong both times. Fire this idiot. 1. Dump salaries and prepare for a long term: Even if this team is healthy, I doubt this team is going anywhere. Only wild cards for our future success are Wright and Randolph, and we aren't exactly doing a great job developing them either. It really is a time to clean the house and look at the long term solution. And the first step will happen by dumping dead-weight long term contracts. Unfortunately, nobody will give up two years contract due to 2010 FA market (Nice job Rowell for squandering valuable 20 mils 2010 contract for... Crawford), so our target should be 3 years long contract for Jackson and Maggette. It will not be easy deals by any stretch of imagination. However, they both can produce, and some team might bite the bate with luck. If we can do that, we will end up with 30 mils expiring contracts in 2011, which can be used for either trade or FA. Of course, this means possibly 3 years of waiting and admitting that the management completely #$*%ed up in this offseason. But then, it isn't exactly a secret either. Fans can survive if they have either immediate success or a hope for the future. At least, give us a hope...
Nice. I agree about Nellie needing a superstar to run his team. He doesn't have one, can't seem to develop the young guys that great (although to his credit, he has done so in the past on other teams and on this team, Monta and Biedrins). I think the blame should always start at the top: Cohan for hiring Rowell and Rowell for putting together a horrible roster.
Yeah, Cohan is the center of the problem, and while he doesn't seem to make many basketball decisions, whenever he makes one, it has been almost always wrong. But then, we can't possibly imagine him firing himself, and at least, he has spent money whenever needed. So, if there is a good GM under Cohan, the system may work. Obviously, Rowell is not the answer though...
We need to all pool our money into a shit-ton of lottery tickets and hope we win, then buy the team and run it like pros.
Absolutely, the problem isn't spending, any fool who won the lottery can spend. It's surrounding yourself with capable people who have the same interest as you. Rowell and Twardzick were his buddies. He continues to go trust his friends with the Warriors. Instead of finding good GMs.
1.) Cohan sells his franchise to a competent, bay area super-billionaire sports franchise owner which causes Rowell to get kicked out. 2.) Nelson is sent packing like the last time and the W's hire the next up and coming head coach who plays more big ball, defense, and rookies. 3.) Brandan Wright gets more playing time at the 4, Anthony Randolph gets more playing time at the 3, Turiaf gets more minutes consistently. 4.) We trade Crawford/Mags, get our first round picks back and get a superstar draft pick in return for those high-volume chuckers. 5.) As discussed last year: Ellis, Belinelli, Randolph/Sjax, Wright, Biedrins becomes our playoff capable team for the future.
