Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man I've subscribed to SLAM for the past 10 years and I can tell you to only take their opinions on quality of dunks and what shoes are "FRESH", nothing actually basketball related.
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man Did you read the article? They actually agree that Oden should be starting because he's the man at his position for the future. Do you think that Joel should start?
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man Good point. I mis-stated the headline. Should have been raised as a question as they had done.
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man after seeing "undeniably awesome John Canzano" in the first line, I spent the rest of the article looking for "/sarcasm" cues. I probably missed the point of the article. I don't see Joel complaining, I don't see Nate or KP complaining, I don't see (many) fans complaining...why switch? "Cake-baking" doesn't involve Joel starting.
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man im actually fine with joel starting, id kinda like to see what difference it makes with oden coming in at first change & when the opositions #2 hits the court - it might/should give him a massive advantage skills wise and might foster some momentum - the 2 quick fouls n out gets a little predictable and teams are working him over as they know he's under that pressure and prone to try harder and likely to foul. i dont think its a knock on greg to move him to the bench - its (imo) the best move for the team at this point, or at the very least its worth a go.
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man "Perhaps Paul Allen could let Canzano snooze in his private chambers from time to time to calm him down."
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man I don't really care who starts. I want Oden to play as many minutes as he can (fouls being the limiter) to speed his development. I want Przybilla to play the remaining minutes at center. It seems sensible to me to start the player you want to play as many minutes as possible and whom you want to develop a chemistry with the other starters...but it isn't really the crucial thing to me. Playing time is.
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man I also don't really think it matters who starts. Its really all about how many minutes you get throughout the game, and who finishes.
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man It says the opposite. Greg is and should be starting. He is the future and we need him to play as much as possible with Brandon and LaMarcus. We also need him to learn to play against Howard, Yao, Bynum, and others instead of their back ups. Greg get into foul trouble because of the shitty defensive strategies of his coach. Having Blake and whatever big switch on every play is assanine (SP?) It also doesn't help that the guards our dumbass coach chooses to play can't keep anyone out of the lane. I would guess only about 1/2 of Gregs problems are actually his own doing.
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man that's slightly apologetic, he's been struggling and has looked like it. this is larger than just one player, the best move for the team is to put our best C vs their C - and sorry, at this point it's Joel. We're wanting to make the playoffs etc well we need to see the bigger picture... oden can still play against the better players but how long do we really thing Roy's 4th quarter bailouts are going to happen with complete regularity?! The way things are at the moment Joel is basically on the court in a few mins due to the foul troubles, IMO having Joel start would delay this first sub and give Oden a chance to assert some dominance on the #2 on the other team. He does need to learn to play vs top NBA centers but cmon, most nights he's getting murked and sidelined in next to no time, id much rather see him come in first change and have a little more freedom/less pressure to work his moves. At the moment, the deep-end is still a little too deep.
Re: SLAM Says Make Greg 6th Man I used to read SLAM, but then I aged past my teens. Most sports magazines suck these days. Fluff pieces.
