Fighter Justin Eilers was reportedly shot to death friday morning in Idaho. His mother's boyfriend is being held in the shooting.

I understand he has a young child. My best wishes for the family.

Yikes. Not the way to end the year. Unfortunate.

    Re: Justin Eilers dead

So here are the details of this grim holiday story:

Eilers was at a house owned by his mother and stepfather, the shooter. An argument broke out between Eilers and his girlfriend, the mother of his young child. She left the house, at which point Eilers and his stepfather got into a confrontation that escalated into verbal threats from Eilers and the damage of property. Reportedly, both were heavily intoxicated. Eilers refused to leave the house. He was shot one time by his stepfather, JR Malec, the bullet ripping through his lung and exiting his back. Eilers' son was at the house but did not witness the shooting, though Eilers' mother did. Eilers' girlfriend returned to the home and she, along with Eilers' mother, attempted to control the wound until paramedics arrived. By the time paramedics arrived, fifteen minutes after the police, Eilers was dead. In my experience paramedics typically arrive after the police when there is violence involved at the scene for their own safety--sometimes not until they are cleared by the police dispatch to enter the area. Mr. Malec was arrested and is being held on $1-million bond. Malec is a former deputy prison sheriff.
