Just thought that I had bouncing around as of late, but.... ....what if instead of the usual Rookie Vs. Sophmore game....why not combine a Coach picked team of both Rookies and Sophmores versus an NBADL All-Star team? It will add a nice little competitive streak to the game instead of it just becoming a dunk off...lol. It works as a promotional tool for the NBADL...not to mention that the D-Leaguers will come to play and impress the crowd and the many coaches there. It could make for some intense and good games. I understand that they will have thier own NBADL showcase night...but honestly wouldn't more people want to show up to see them playing the likes of Mayo and Rose....it gives a better gauge of talent if they face at least the top rookies and 2nd year players in the NBA. I really don't see any bad side to this idea....any thoughts?
I think the consensus is that a team of Rose, Mayo, Durant etc. will easily win against a team of Sean Williams, Ewing Jr., and the rest of the players who couldn't make it to the NBA.
well, duh....I'm looking at it from this standpoint: By having the game between the 1st/2nd year players and NBADL players will be the competative spirit...the Rookie/Soph game always ends up just being a snoozefest...but at least with this....the NBADL will play like they have a chip on thier shoulders and make it a competative game
Most of the players in the D-League don't even belong on NBA rosters and they will be going up against some of the league's rising stars. I don't think any type of D-League competitive spirit will eliminate a possible 40+ point blow out.
there are quite a few players in the d league that could play with the rooks. there are some 10 year vets and what not. would be close maybe.
I dont know if this is the answer, but I would like to see some event of the top D league players. The NBA needs to integrate the D league more.
But this would be a good way to promote the D-League tough...and get more interest in them. I just think it would be more intertaining than the what usually ends up being teams taking turns dunking for the last 7-8 minutes of the game. The Fans would still see the rising stars in the Rookie/Soph team. Just think....The Nets fans can see Sean Williams in action again....
I didn't know SWAT was in the D-League, I thought he was NBA caliber!?!!? rooks vs d-league might be more fair than rooks+sophs vs D-League. No matter how talented the rooks are, I don't expect them to win against the Sophs this year. When you think about it, even if they are more talented, there are a lot of factors... Sophs have played around 82 games which is almost double the amount of college games and they have played against superior competition. I know not all sophs have played 30+mpg but the ones who make the soph team usually are contributor on their team and have played significant minutes. Plus on the other hand, you have rooks that, at the all star break, have played about the same amount of games as they did the previous year so they are pretty tired, they are not used to the NBA schedule, where as the sophs do a little more. So if you take the sophs out, and make it rooks vs d-league, maybe it could work. I like the idea behind it though, to give more exposure to the dl... I'm just not sure the dl is worth more attention yet...
Yeah, SWAT was just sent down this week I believe...and he has the ability to drop a couple hammers on a rookie squad...lol Now that you mention it...it would be a better game with just the Rookies...so I'll Co-sign on that adjustment...lol. But 44Thrilla hit the nail on the head...when it comes to my reasoning on why it could be a lot closer than many would expect. The D-Leaguers would be on a televised stage and will want to prove that thier worthy of playing at the next level (keep in mind that the D-L all-stars will consist of many draft picks and players who have already planned in the NBA...so I wouldn't write them off as an easy win).
lol...they can set it up like those old Rock n Jock games they had on MTV back in the day...lol..25pt baskets and all! lol
Really, how awsome would it be to have a 12th man game? I bet half of them would love to get some TV love.
east coaches vrs. west coaches! its perfect! haha, that would be a laugh watching phil trying his old tricks on the floor with a bung hip and all. anyway, who cares if the d-league doesnt get recognition, its the d-league, come on, its there for a reason, so that sub-par players can still play "pro" ball in the untited states instead of all of em going off to europe and shit like that, plus it provides jobs for those players who couldnt make an nba roster and were stupid enough to not finish their college degree's. its not there to showcase talent one bit, maaybe for a small handfull of the young players who didnt get exposure in college, but the rest of it is a joke, a bigger joke than all-star weekend.
