Finally!!! That is the only role where he can be successfull in the NBA. Although we're paying him like a borderline all-star. Next Nellie needs to realize that Crawford is better off the bench too and Beli's all around game make him worthy of remaining a starter even after Monta comes back
Absolutely. Maggette and Crawford are "instant offense" guys. They're so one-dimensional that keeping them on the floor for extended periods makes them less valuable. I'd say Maggette is consistently going to score and get to the line, but nothing else. Crawford is just inconsistent but can score in a variety of ways. I think if they can make a successful transition to the bench, their value will go up, thus giving us better trade options.
I didn't watch the game, but it looked like the Warriors played decently. Maggs and craw off the bench would be great. Then CJ watson gets promoted to starting point guard.
How is it that a guy like Brevin Knight knows how to run a fastbreak properly and CJ doesn't? CJ has a nice midrange game and plays D but that's it.
Because he's a real PG. I don't know why he's bounced around so much. He was good at stanford, he's been good at every NBA stop-always among the league leaders in assist, assist/TO, and steals-yet can't stay with one team. I was really hping the Ws would pick him up coming into this season.
I thought Maggette's contribution was good last night. Probably played more minutes than he should have. It'd be nice if we can limit his minutes to less than 30/game and his role to the bench for the remainder of the season (if we keep him). Belinelli started off good but struggled throughout the 2nd half. I thought CJ should not have been in the lineup late in the game.
Well yeah, that's why C.J. is a backup. Every backup player has major holes in their game and that is one of C.J.'s. He's being asked to do more than he's capable of right now (as is almost every player on the Warriors). I hope when Monta comes back we're going to see the fast breaks improve dramatically, because they have been horrible this year. First of all, Monta will generate more steals to fuel fast breaks. Secondly he's a better ball-handler at maximum speed than anyone else on the Warriors. He doesn't have the court vision that Baron does, but with his speed, he's often able to beat everyone else down the floor and finish breaks himself without help anyway.
Well Brevin is a real point guard and he's been in the league a lot longer and he's led the way for a good college team. Didn't Knight get top 3 in league assists when there was no Raymond Felton for Charlotte? The guy is obviously a great floor general when given minutes and when healthy. CJ is different in that he's more of a combo guy like Fisher only CJ can shoot off the dribble, he doesn't dominate the ball as much, and he can dribble penetrate. If we really want a guy that can run a fastbreak that'd be Marcus Williams. He's probably one of the few guys that can not only run a proper 2 on 1 but he can thread the needle inside. Nelson really missed out on giving this guy a chance. It's not like the other guys at point play any d, plus our other guards shoot like crap anyway.
Exactly. I think lack of size kind of hurts Knight's stock as a starter. He's like a Speedy Claxton / Rajon Rondo player in some attributes. His 18-20 foot jump shot is nice and consistent, but he's such a limited range shooter and he's not like Deron Williams or Andre Miller taking the ball inside. He'll almost always pass unless it's a sure thing foul. If Knight of two years ago stays healthy and gets lots of minutes, he'd probably be leading the league in assists behind Nash. Of course, it won't equate to wins if the guy gets posted up and shot over like every big tall point does to guys like Mighty Mouse Stoudamire or Earl Boykins. I think for our team there will be a huge difference once we get a playmaker to run the point guard spot (like when we upgraded from Fisher to Baron or from Arenas to a point guard platoon of Nick Van Exel, Claxton)
I like Maggette when he's a small forward. He's been misused after the first 10 games of the season because Nelly believes any high scorer can do the same types of scoring against a bigger player and play adequate defense and rebounding. Then when Sjax has to play the PF position, suddenly he gets crappier than when he played SF. These forwards are put into a position to lose! It's all Nelly I tells you! You put a player where he's most comfortable and I believe he'll be motivated and will naturally know his team role. The defense will get better too. Again, it's motivation, playing against a plausible matchup, and getting these guys focussed on both ends of the floor. I don't expect Belinelli to be consistent at all if he believes in shooting more 3's than midrange shots or taking it inside. The guy isn't Jrich in terms of consistency and he's not very powerful at finishing. He'll get there, but he'll always try to be finesse rather than supply the power game.
I really doubt Maggette will be traded so I'm starting to look at all the positives he brings to the table. He's got a good attitude, seemingly does whatever is asked (within his capacity), and gives the Warriors instant offense. Like you said, if he stays put at the SF position, he should be fine. If he stops taking so many shots, especially 3's, the Warriors are in much better shape. Man, imagine if he had some awareness of his teammates while driving...he'd rack up a lot of assists. He's really quick and strong to the hoop. Maybe too quick. As he gets older, maybe he'll slow down a bit and let the game come to him a bit more and that might open up more opportunities for the entire team. That's me being optimistic and giving up on the idea that Maggette will be traded.
I don't mind Bellinelli taking the 3s if they are good looks. He's got a good midrange game and an ability to get inside, he's just got to get a better feel for it. Finishing? Well that's another story. I doubt he's ever going to be powerful; he'll be well served to just copy Ginobili, that guy is the ultimate warrior.
