This could mean several things. Portland called their bluff (if they had one), Darius is done and Memphis realized it, David Stern called the Grizz and scared the shit out of them, or Darius just sucks shit now. Could be other things too.
I fail to see the connection between Milicic missing time and Darius being waived. WTF is Wallace referring to here?
He was generally disliked before the cap space implications of him coming back from a medical retirement; it's pretty well accepted that Darius mailed it in after signing a fat contract after his first season in Portland, he wasn't necessarily loathed by his teammates, but he definitely got a bad rap before he went down injured a couple of years ago.
They may feel they need to go out and get a backup big man instead of using their fifteenth spot on a backup 3
Perhaps he wants a roster spot open to potentially sign a center since Milicic is out. That's the only thing I could think of. Or Wallace is a dumbass.
They already have Arthur, Gasol, Warrick, and the Iranian dude. I assumed that four big men would have sufficed. Guess not.

Cap space they don't deserve it would seem. Miles can obviously still play, and it was silly for the Blazers to claim otherwise. PatterNash made a big booboo when they gave Miles the extension, and the Blazers should pony up. Their recent history (Paul's "bankruptcy" and reputation for not paying his bills or honoring his word) suggests they will keep trying to dodge financial responsibility, while at the same time attempting to teach their players to be more honorable.
