Pierre Thomas played great while Bush was out this past season, so they should be fine if he isnt ready by training camp.

Yup, and I thought it was the right decision at the time too. Stud defensive ends are simply much more impactful than even talented scat backs, unless that scat back is Barry Sanders whom I never thought Reggie Bush would approach.
I didn't think Reggie was a "scat back" coming into the NFL. He's 205 lbs and built like a brick. I just can't believe how completely ineffective the guy is running between the tackles. A career 3.7 YPC is just awful. He's a 3rd down back and a kick returner now, and you're right . . . he's now got to be considered a "scat back". He sure was amazing to watch in college though. Anybody remember the Fresno State game?
He has the size, but at USC his style was that of a scat back...he didn't drag tacklers, he used his amazing (for the college game) elusiveness and speed. He ran inside at USC because his offensive line opened gigantic holes. His power never really impressed me and I thought that once he was up against the far superior athletes of the NFL, his elusiveness and speed wouldn't play as well (I felt the same way about Vince Young...you can kill teams with your legs as a quarterback in college, but not against the much faster NFL). I did love watching Bush in college. He was one of my favourites.
Brian Westbrook is what Reggie Bush was supposed to be. But hopefully it will work out for him, I think there is an element of severity. John Stockton had MF like 15 years ago (when it was a crude procedure) and came back in a few months.
