Well, we can probably scratch that one off the list.

Memphis just traded cash considerations and a conditional 2nd round pick to the Heat for Shaun Livingston:

    There goes Darius' roster spot.

It seems starange that they would prefer a 4th string PG who hasn't recovered from his knee injury over Darius who supposedly has - especially given their current lack of front court depth after Darko went down with an injury.

So, that leads to my second scenario: Boston signs Darius to a 10-day contract or two to see if he's worth keeping on the roster for the remainder of the season. It looks like Chris Wallace did his old team a big favor (intentionally, I suspect) by helping Miles get that pesky 10 game suspension out of the way so he'd be a better candiate for a 10-day contract or two

Apparently the Grizz traded with Miami to acquire Livingston. I wonder if that is why they waived Darius.

Evidently, the lucrative Baskin-Robbins endorsement deal* fell through and Darius went with plan B - pop diet pills like M&Ms in order to quickly lose enough weight to fool a couple clueless NBA GMs into believing you deserve an NBA roster spot and an NBA salary.

I wonder what plan C is. Perhaps "The Biggest Loser - NBA Edition". I wonder what John "Hot Plate" Wiliams is up to (figuratively and literally) these days.

I believe that Boston's current troubles will not allow them to sign those vets that they want - Marbury, Miles, et al.

When they were crushing teams for 20 straight games, sure... but now they're kind of teetering on the brink of becoming very very very very beatable if they aren't already there. They can't fuck around with additions that bring nothing but second chances to the team there.

If you read the link above, it states that the Heat were expected to waive Livingston, but at the last minute worked out a trade to send him to the Grizz for cash and a 2nd round pick.

I like your conspiracy thinking, and think it could be plausible, but who does Boston waive in order to bring in Miles for some his ten-day contracts? If they do it, it had better be by Saturday, right?

The two most likely to be waived would be Scalabrine or Bill Walker, but I just don't see that happening.

What a great idea! Add in Stanley Roberts, Khalid El-Amin, Pearl Washington, Shawn Kemp, Shaq, and Glenn Davis, and I think we have a new VH-1 show.

What the fuck is Wallace doing? Trading a second round pick for a player so you can turn around and waive him? Seriously, this is starting to look goofy as hell ... is there some angle here that I'm not seeing?

Cash was involved. So, Miami paid Memphis to clear a roster spot.

It just occured to me when I read the blurb on Insidehoops.com after I had posted above.

Wow, the Grizz must be desperate for cash.

A very good point. They are so strapped for cash they are trading picks in order to waive players, yet they signed Darius Miles and paid him to sit on the bench.

What an absolute mess of an organization.

    Memphis... lol. What a joke.
Chris Wallace continues to build his legacy as the worst GM in the NBA.

Actually, behind the bench - while he was suspended. So, they paid him for 12 games for nine minutes of court time.

So that's a seventh of the minimum salary, right? So that's about $140k. That's not very much money.

I don't know how much money he got from Miami for taking on Livingston, but I bet it was significantly more than $140k.

I'm not really sure why this deal is evidence that Wallace is a bad GM.
