Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap I don't even see how this is news anymore. Did anyone really expect other NBA teams wouldn't sign Miles to keep Portland from having free access to anyone they wanted next summer?
Miles needs just 2 more games?! So, apparently the preseason games count towards the 10 needed for him to come back on the cap? http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=aw-milesblazers010709&prov=yhoo&type=lgns I must say, this is absolutely ridiculous. Why should games which are absolutely meaningless be included? Further, why should games played before he served his suspension be allowed to count? One would think that if the suspension didn't apply to the preseason games, then said games wouldn't/shouldn't apply to the 10-game rule. To quote the article, “Someone is going to scoop him up and play him those two games now. Portland is screwed.”
Re: Miles needs just 2 more games?! Yeah I saw that this morning. Absolutely ridiculous. We're definitely screwed now.
Re: Miles needs just 2 more games?! Blazers should snatch him up. I know they won't but since it's so openly discussed what this would do to the Blazers cap, I say go for it.
Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap I agree no way he wasn't going to be picked up by another team. He's a low risk, low cost player. I don't blame another team for taking a look, Miles had talent to be an elite player in this league. The sooner Miles gets his 2 games in the sooner we can appeal it.
Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap I used to practice law full-time. I would venture to say that there likely is some sort of "good faith" clause in this part of the Collective Bargaining Agreement; that is, teams can't just pick up Miles to F with the Blazers - they have to be acting in good faith. I also have no doubt that Paul Allen's lawyers have made it clear that they will act accordingly if a team seems to be picking up Miles without really being serious. It may even be a financial tort. I know I would not want to mess with Paul Allen's deep legal pockets.
Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap It is my impression that Stern and the NBA offices in the past have generally applied the LETTER of the CBA - ignoring it's spirit - EXCEPT - when ignoring the letter of the CBA suits Stern's agenda. Also, in the past, Stern has shown little love for Allen and the Blazers. I doubt very much Stern will go to bat to support their needs. I guess he just stays neutral - which in this instance screws the Blazers. As for "good faith", assuming there even is such a clause that applies to other team's behavior towards players affecting other teams cap and lux tax, PROVE IT. Proving bad faith without a smoking gun is near impossible. Boston, Memphis and whoever can smirk and chuckle and wink all they want. What does that prove? Of course they had to take a chance on a former No 3 draft pick. That's all they have to say.
Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap Now we know Danny Ainge's opinion on this. I really hope they do sign Miles. The NBA needs more blood feuds. I will forever HATE the Denver Nuggets if they sign Miles, give him some garbage minutes, and then release him. One might think that the league office would but the kabosh on this, but Stern HATES small market teams, so I imagine he is the one behind counting the EXHIBITION games for Miles while Miles was supposedly under suspension. Paul Allen needs to sue the league IMO unless this is written into league law.
Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap It's staggering to me how many people don't actually know why Miles was declared to have a career-ending injury. Just because he can hobble up and down the court doesn't mean the evaluation was incorrect.
Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap Whomever does sign him will feel the full and complete wrath of Blazer Nation. Emails, phone calls, faxes, and general harassment and embarrassment for those involved.
Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap I can't wait. I hope it is the Nuggets. I'll email Warkentien multiple times a day. Obviously it would be just to screw over Portland; if it wasn't, Warkentien would have already signed Miles at some point this summer or for camp. He knows Darius as well as any other GM in the league. If he didn't already bite, clearly this would be for spite.
Re: Miles 2 games from counting on the cap Oh...if its just to screw portland over, it'll be on. serious shit will go down. I kind of want it to happen just so I can fuck with whomever does it.
Blazers’ magic number for cap turmoil: 2 http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...lug=aw-milesblazers010709&prov=yhoo&type=lgns By Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports
Re: Blazers’ magic number for cap turmoil: 2 Damn. Portland should have claimed him on waivers and have him replace Shavlik at the end of the bench. Ed O.
Re: Blazers’ magic number for cap turmoil: 2 They don't actually, but sports columnists are particularly bad about being factual. The team will still be way under the cap even if Miles' salary is added back to their cap figure. It won't "knock them out" as a free agent market player.
