It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. Thats going to be a lot of money to pay for someone who could end up being the backup QB.

Good, I was hoping they would do it. They better not take too much time to explore their options, though, because they need some of that money to improve the defense.

This is stupid. You cant pay your back up that much money, unless if they are planing on trading one of them.

Well, it makes sense, that way if Brady isn't healthy for next year, they have an insurance plan. Plus, by franchising him, they'll get compensation for whomever might try to sign him. While it might be a ton of money, it makes sense to me.

I'm thinking thier just Franchising him so when another team offers him a contract they get draft picks in return that comes along with the Franchise tag.

ie; the sign him to the Franchise tag....Minnesota offer's Cassel a contract and New England lets him walk and get's 'Sota's 1st and 3rd Rounder.

It's a smart move, since this will ensure they get something for him since he wouldn't want to purposly return to a team just to be a backup after proving enough that he can be a viable starter.

They could then turn that 1st Rounder into a QB...

No one will sign him while hes tagged, they would have to surrender two 1st Round picks....he will either get traded for less, stay in NE for another year, or Brady will show that hes healthy and the Pats will remove the tag before he signs the tender....

14 million dollars.....to be a backup. Matt played himself into the best situation in pro sports....good for him.
