In somewhat surprising news, The Ultimate 2008 is going to be the biggest PPV of the past year, surpassing the much ballyhooed Randy Couture vs. Brock Lesnar match-up. Dana White claims UFC 92 beat UFC 91 by as many as 175,000 PPV buys, making it by far the most successful PPV of the year and putting it in contention for the most successful PPV for the UFC ever. If this is the case it is fantastic news for the UFC and shows that you don't have to have star power and gimmicks to make a PPV work--just a great card, great promotion, and great timing. UFC 92 was the best PPV of 2008 so it is fitting that it would be the best selling as well. White believes UFC 94 is poised to do even better, though the card relies much more on the main event and doesn't have a featured bout on the card a casual fan would be interested in besides Penn/St. Pierre.
