With Odom out Powell will finally get his chance. I really like what he's shown us so far, he has a decent mid range jumper, and he has been great on the boards when given the minutes. If we keep winning without Odom and Powell fills in well, maybe the organization will realize he is expandable and we will trade him. :drumroll:

While it sucks the way it happened Im stoked Powell is getting a chance to show what he can do. I like what Ive seen even in the sparse minutes he's had before Odom's injury

Odom is gone after this year regardless, we really need to consider dealing him if Powell can be a competent backup. I'll only be sad to see a great insurance policy go, Odom was really tearing it up last year next to Gasol.

Well we have to resign Kobe. Odom's asking for around 10-15 mil a year too IIRC.

If he accepts MLE level then yes (probably not happening), but not for that money.

But assuming both Odom and Ariza accept the same amount, who would you want back?

You answered the question right there, that would be great value for Odom.

Ariza is much more in reach, we shouldn't have to bend over backwards for Odom, we just need better depth behind Bynum in case he goes out.

So how did Powell play today? Looked like he did decent from the boxscore, I wasn't able to catch the game!

Pretty respectable, I'd still like to see more of him though since Indiana wasn't playing much D. :]

Powell has to be earning more minutes with his hustle and rebounding. He saved our ass in the Warriors game with two key offensive rebounds. One he tipped to Bynum for a dunk, and the other he back tapped out and it lead to another basket.

He's still hesistant on offense, but the more time he spends on the court he'll get comfortable and find his touch. He's always had a nice mid-range jumper and he can finish around the rim.

This kid reminds me of Turiaf--just more contained and polished.

I think if given the minutes, Powell is a better player. Ronny is a great cheerleader, but on the court he plays out of control. He commits too many fouls, his offensive game is really limited, and all he can really do consistently is block shots and hustle.

Powell hustles and actually grabs rebounds (something Ronny was incapable of doing), he has a nice looking mid-range jumper that he makes most of the time. He just doesn't block as many shots as Ronny. And he's stonefaced like Trevor and J-Critt.

That's a good description. Powell needs to ditch the cornrows though and fro it out.

I'll agree with your assessment, Ronny's rebounding really frustrated me in the past. No way did I want to keep him at that price.
