imo, if a trade is not made, who we should renounce.

we let channing, ike, and blake go, and play with 14.5 million in cap room. if we really want blake back, we can always resign him after the fact.

    that gives us

    bayless/sergio/koponen
    roy/rudy
    martell/batum
    lma/outlaw/freeland
    oden/pryz

basically we would still need a pg, but would have 14.5 million in cap room to do so.

Peronally I'd probably try to retain Blake and waive Outlaw which leaves roughly the same amount of cap room.

My vote is for signing a wing defender (like Josh Childress, Trevor Ariza, Ron Artest for example), a quality backup 4 (Brandon Bass, Chris Wilcox), bring Freeland over and roll with that. All in all, the FA class of 2009 is pretty lean at positions of need, and there are far more quality wings than quality 1s -- the only two point guards that would be worth pursuing are Mike Bibby and Ramon Sessions.

This list is worth a look: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=09FreeAgents-081113

We don't need to waive Outlaw we have a team option for Outlaw next year and we don't have to pick it up if we don't want to. I would guess we would pickup both Blake and Outlaw's team option unless something really changes with a trade at the dealine this year.

Man, that's bleak for point guards:

    AI - UFA
    Kidd - UFA
    Miller - UFA
    Bibby - UFA
    Marbury - UFA
    B. Jackson - UFA

    Felton - RFA
    Sessions - RFA
    Jack - RFA
    N. Robinson - RFA
    Head - RFA

No Player option or Early Termin. option guys.

All the decent guys are dinosaurs, and the young guys aren't any better than Blake. Blech. I'd rather be over the cap and use my MLE on the older ones than be under the cap and have their agents threatening to sign with true contender for less.

We don't know which guys will be available through a lopsided trade though. That's the key.
