It's Palin's own party that really made the train wreck of her pregnant daughter a national issue. When your party runs for 30 years on issues like "traditional family values," "personal responsibility" and "abstinence-only", it's pretty hard to make a claim that Palin's daughter having a baby at 17 is somehow off-limits. If what you're selling doesn't even work for your own family, why should the rest of America buy it?
Yeah, but come on Mook. Not every Republican is "morally conservative". I recently went back to school to finish up my degree and I took a history course on early American politics. I wish the Republican party would get back to its roots. Shoot.... I wish the Democratic party would get back to its roots. They used to stand for states rights and less Federal spending and control back when they were the Democratic Republicans. Thomas Jefferson would be rolling over in his grave if he saw what our current political system was mired in.
bassackwards Since the ilk of people who find SNL funny were Obama's ATM machine for the election (and free negative PR for republican candidates), they're going to expect to be able to influence policy. http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2009/01/the-note-1909-o.html The Note, 1/9/09: Obama Pressed From Left on Stimulus
not to mention that SP was getting her baby into every photo op possible like I've never seen a candidate do with their child. If she wanted her kids to be off limits, then maybe she should have taken a more conservative approach. break out the tiny violins. You aren't going to convince many that Rush, Bill and the hoards of right wing talk show hosts would have taken the high road... you do remember O'Rielly on Jamie Lynn Spears pregnancy a month earlier right? STOMP
They probably have a case. I've never seen a candidate receive so much love and adulation before they've even set foot in office. They're selling commemorative Obama coins for pete's sake. Commemorative of WHAT??? What has he done? Obama might end up a good President, I'm not saying he won't, but let the guy work before you decide he's a great President. Some people sound like they would already start chiseling his face on Mt. Rushmore.
I think the media is capitalizing on Obama being extremely popular among tons of people, as opposed to creating the popularity.
Yes, but how did he become extremely popular Minstrel? Most people my age or younger don't read newspapers. They don't watch the news. They can scarcely point to England on a map. Obama is extremely popular with my generation... why? They certainly didn't hear about him on NPR.
Seems like you are arguing against yourself - first you say Obama is a creation of the media, and now you say that your peeps don't pay attention to the media and they love Obama. barfo
Do not confuse selling coins with "love and adulation". That is just someone who see's idiots out there who buy crap that is painted on coins, thinking that it's worth anything more than the face value of the coin.
No, you're right. I guess I was thinking in terms of the grand scheme of things. Media, not just as journalism, but as entertainment as well.
It's no different than the coins that people bought for 9-11, George Bush (during his presidency) and Ronald Reagan. Stupid people (and it's a very small %) buy stupid shit. If you were able to sell 50,000 "Obama Dollars" for 15 bucks each, you're making a good turnover. But it doesn't mean anything for your point.
The difference between everything you just listed and Barrack Obama, they were marketed during or after the fact. You didn't see George Bush or Ronald Reagan coins before their presidency. During or after, yes, but not before. I think this is indicative of his hype and completely supports my point.
I think his point is that people are relying on Jay Leno for advice on who to vote for instead of relying on actual investigative journalists. Obama was given a pass by the journalists and the fantasyland hollywood types heaped nothing but praise on him.
Apples and oranges. There is a difference between Jamie Lynn Spears, who decided to live a public life and the consequences that went with it, and Bristol Palin, who was bought into the national spotlight because she was Sarah's daughter.
he's become President of the USA. They sold commemorative coins of W when he was "elected" for the same reason they're commemorating Barak... to make money off an event that a great number of consumers care about. STOMP
If they could have done it before their presidencies, they would've. Hell, there are people who honestly wanted to put Reagans mug on Mt Rushmore. woops and another *how long before people catch these are meant to be jokes? although this one wasn't granted, it was in March of 2002, but it's no different. People saw a niche market, and tried to con people into buying crap.
