I'd love Sergio to play well. Tonite though he'd dribble for 20 secs and eithr pass or put up a bad shot.

No it doesn't. He actually spoke the truth for once. Sergio is bad, and is play is certainly showing it. How does he even end up shooting 3 times in 2 minutes. Sergio? Really?

Problem is, he always does this.

watching sergio play is like watching a rookie qb against the steelers defense

Re: Blazers @ Chicago Game Thread

    I'm chillin' indeed.

Good win over a very weak team.

Smokin' a Tabak Especial and drinking hot cocoa out on my deck under a star-filled sky here in Beautiful Central Oregon.

I love Bayless, just not as a PG (he's horrible at PG, just as Oden would be).

I like his scoring mentality, and with a PG like Sergio to set him up he could be very effective for us. They make a good duo, and both are good at full-court press which Blake and Roy are a bit slow for.

But at PG he is our weakest defender by far, and the team flounders and stands around and watches him play his one-man offensive attack.

In a year or 2 he will be a regular player, but right now he's got so much to learn. He has yet to go under, over, around, or through a pick yet. Not once has he done it. It's like a 20ft-long wall to him. And so, other PG's have their way with him more so than I ever remember happening in Blazers history.

I'd love to see Nate declare him a SG and play him that way exclusively so he can get some time on the court to learn the basics. I think he might be better at defending SG's also because most of them are jump-shooters and not drivers. He gets killed on the pick and roll plays.

    Sergio:

Ranks #5 in the NBA in Assists Per 48 Minutes(11.2) (Blake ranks 33rd)
Ranks #10 in the NBA in Steals Per 48 Minutes(2.56)

That's starting PG material at both ends of the court.

I really liked the way that Bayless came out aggressively and looked for his shot. I wanted to see him do it a little more toward the end of the game just so that he could establish more of a rhythm going into Philadelphia. We may need him if Rudy can't play.

Also, kudos to Greg Oden for the nice game!

    Aww, shoot.

If only his defense and shooting were good enough to warrant playing him big minutes.

Because there were 4 guys standing around instead of getting open, and Sergio SHOULD HAVE said something to get them moving because that's on the PG or the coach to do.

But Nate didn't pull everybody, just Sergio, his favorite scapegoat.

And when Bayless twice blew his defense Nate yelled at Joel for getting the fouls, not at Bayless for getting picked and giving up.

It just brings back the whole JJ and "black vs white" double-standard thing that I had hoped we had left behind when we dumped Jarrett.

I'd like to see a longer leash for everyone on the team for a few months so they can make some progress without looking over their shoulder all the time.

Being a white guy on Nate's team is like being a black guy with a cop car tailgating you. You're bound to make a mistake just because you know he's watching for it.

Did Maris really say Bayless is our worst PG defender by far? Wow.

Like all the good SG's do.

That's definitely his strong suit, and he's got incredible speed that is rare at that position.

No, but it's a fact of life and should never be ignored or excused. :tsktsk:

Do you have anything constructive to contribute to this thread or do you just get a rush typing 4 letter words? :dunno:

Kudos to TO, Greg, and Steve for nice games.

I was particularly impressed with Steve's defense on Rose, his best D this year IMO.

LaMarcus also had 4 assists to counter his slow offensive night.
