Blazers had tried to claim Miles off waivers?!?

According to Yahoo sports which was just written an hour or so ago:
Wow, like the Energizer bunny, this Miles saga just keeps going and going. It's like a cheesy comic book plot.

If we did try to re-sign Miles, I think this does makes our team look a bit hypocritical. Our image around the league might be tarnished indefinitely now, at least to the national (and maybe local) media. I hope this Miles fiasco comes to a final resolution and we can finally move on. But I fear that it this saga has miles to go (pun intended). :dunno:

That's incredible. We were just gonna drop SBo and keep Miles on the bench?

I've advocated that for a couple of weeks. I hope they DID try to do it... and that the league at least gave them a thumbs-down.

I really hope not. We just need to leave him alone.

It makes sense to me. They tried the waiver gimmick and panicked when the league blocked their attempt to claim Miles. So they hastily threw that email together and blasted it out the rest of the league.

I always figured there was something like this waiver denial or a threat from another GM that set off Larry Miller to quickly put together that ill-advised email.

    That would be really disappointing.

Why is yahoo sports breaking all this news? Since when is yahoo the leader in sports rumors? Who are these guys?

Adrian Wojnarowski is pretty well respected and has more league contacts than guys like Canzano.

I have no problem with it. I think it's good to have competition. It seems like other sites like Fox sports and the Sporting News have really dropped off in terms of trying to compete with ESPN for content. If someone like Yahoo wants to throw their hat in the ring, more power to them.

That waivers scenario makes perfect sense because that email really seemed to be coming from a place of desperation. To me it seemed like a "plan B" that was thrown together hastily without considering the broader repercussions and considering it would likely be leaked.

They really should have spend all of their effort to lobby the league to see if they could get exception made for this very unique scenario. Now they have poisoned the well and don't have any goodwill with the NBA right now.

Yea, I can't remember the last time Fox or SN broke a story. Yahoo seems to beat ESPN to NBA scoops more and more often these days.

ESPN really isn't very good at breaking news. They're good at re-breaking news. Someone else breaks it, they pick up on it and run it. That's how MOST people hear about it. Of course, Blazer fans on this forum pay just as much attention to national news as ESPN, so why go to ESPN when you can just come here to get your daily news? :devilwink:

I hope we did try to claim him. It would be stupid not to. At least we'd be in control in regards to the situation if we where able to claim him.

Good. Who cares? Oh yeah, you soft, tree hugging Oregonians. Who the fuck cares? Our team is doing ANYTHING it can to get rid of a fucking parasite cancer bitch named Darius Miles. I wouldn't cry about it if KP put a hit out on Miles. As long as it takes his contract off our books. Who fucking cares?

Stop being such god damned wussies.

Ok, so obviously the correct response to this post is to laugh at you...

But I'm going to attempt to point out a flaw in your logic (obvious I know). You're saying "Our team is doing anything it can to get rid of a fucking parasite cancer bitch named Darius Miles", but the thread is about how the team tried to claim him off waivers.... do you not see the discrepancy in what you just said?

Maybe you should have written the email for the Blazers to send to the rest of the league. You clearly demonstrated a knack for diplomacy.

That sounds more like a compliment than an insult.

    That sounds creepy.
