Why the Blazer Management went this far to keep Miles out of the NBA. The moves they made with the e-mail and trying to claim him off of waivers was desperate. Very desperate. It makes you wonder what KP had in mind. I'm thinking he was eyeing Kobe this summer. It had to be somebody of that stature to make KP act like a complete fool and put a black eye on the franchise.
Apparently on 1080thefan Larry Miller said a few days ago that they never tried to claim Miles off waivers. So if the rumors are true the Blazers tried to, Larry Miller flat out lied to everyone listening on the radio. That's bad.
To Paul Allen it might not be a big deal. This move put a bad light on this franchise. When I first heard about what they were doing the first thing that popped in my mind was "What the fuck are they thinking?!" You could see it from a mile away that their 'power move' wasn't going to work.
That email was just stupid. Was the Grizzlies main motive to sign Miles and hurt the Blazers? I'd bet on it. Can the Blazers prove it? Absolutely not. Can they prove Darius is just trying to get back at them? Absolutely not. It was just a bad idea.
I'd imagine Ben Gordon, Carlos Boozer, and Paul Millsap might be guys as well. Boozer might be the only one that Portland needed the full max to pry away. As long as they renounce certain players, they should have enough to get Gordon or Millsap imo still. I don't think Kobe is even on anyones radar. If Kobe is leaving the Lakers, it will be for the Bulls (he tried it in both 2003 and 2007)...but not actually to play for the Bulls, he will just toy with Bulls fans hearts...before re-signing with the Lakers. Kobe realizes how important a one team legacy is. The Lakers are a great team, and they've treated him well.
*edited: No personal attacks* Be happy your GM is a fucking gangster and will do whatever he needs to do to get his team to the top. If he got away with this, you would be like "KP is the smartest man alive! Long live KP!" but since he got caught and you are a tree hugging Oregonian, you throw him under the buss and sell him out. Nice try KP. Excellent work and I appreciate your efforts to make our team better.
The Bulls were the second best defensive team in 2004-2005, seventh best defensive team in 2005-2006, and the best defensive team in 2006-2007. Ben Gordon played heavy minutes on all of these teams. Clearly he doesn't hurt a team too much defensively.
Some of the posters on here are such drama queens! Black eye on the franchise?! Most of the people in Portland don't even know what we're discussing, let alone fans anywhere else.
Consider this: if Miles seriously hurts himself, who is he going to sue? Hint: remember Walton? He didn't/couldn't sue any of the *teams* he played for - so he sued the Blazer medical staff. (on the theory that they were the first to treat the injury) Miles' agent has probably already lined up a lawyer.
