Pistons? He's a leader, vet, and will be clutch in the end of the game. Oh yeah and he's not happy having to split minutes with AI in Detroit. He'd be a great pickup for us!

    Thoughts?

A shooting guard with virtually no passing skill? I can't think of anything Portland needs less, other than maybe a backup power forward who doesn't play defense.

Yeah, we have two of those already.

While I think a backourt of Roy/Hamilton would be better while Blake's out than Roy/Sergio and Roy Bayless, it's a long term commitment ($10.6 million this year and $11.4 million next) to a short term problem - and it would require using Raef's expiring contract to get him and kill any free agent hopes this summer. Way too high a price for a guy who doesn't really address a long term positional need.

The only way I'd trade for Rip is if it was part of a deal that also included Prince.

On a side note: anyone know when Rudy will be back? A Roy/Rudy backcourt would be far better than what we had tonight after Blake went down.

We don't need Rip, but it would be amusing to see him and Rudy running off screens together on each side of the court.

Not enough good salary matches for our teams. And he is a SG.

I'd only want Rip if we got wind that he Jazz were going to acquire him. I'd try to make deal for him just to block it. If the Jazz ever figure out that their weakness is SG, they would be the team to beat in the NW Division. He would do for them what Billups did for the Nuggs.

This teams needs nothing. It has a great coach with an incredible offensive mond and a great defensive teacher. We have a starting PG who can get to the rim and finish and is a really good defender. We have a defensive minded SF with all kinds of experience. We have a banger coming in off the bench at the 4.

Oh wait that's not us at all.

I don't care, let it burn to a crisp.

I for one think Roy is injury prone. We better really think of how to keep Rudy or look at a great #2 backup.

You left out one critical fact. He is more consistent than any of our guards besides Roy, by far. He is a machine. Secondly, the job of the SG isn't to pass. The job of the SG is to score. He could easily play besides Roy or any other PG on the team.

Lastly, A lot of Rudy's game is like his, but Rudy isn't shooting as good. The good part would be your second unit plays just like your first unit, so there would be no disparity in play methods between units.

Of course, the BEST reason to get Richard Hamilton is so we can all call him:

    Rip City Rip!

How cool would that be? It's like it was meant to be. With apologies to Geroge McFly, it is his density!

He may be consistent, but he's not much better than Rudy, if at all. And he's much worse than Roy. So being the second/third string shooting guard isn't that great a use for a player making what he does.

The reason I brought up passing skill is because Roy is not a point guard. Yes, he is the one who controls the offense, but he's not a true point guard and, in my opinion, needs another passer alongside him to share some of the play-making duties. Installing Roy at point guard and Hamilton at shooting guard would create two problems: sub-standard distribution on offense and making every opposing point guard a prime Steve Nash as neither player can adequately defend point guards.

If he's not happy splitting time with AI, how's he going to feel here?

He would not be splitting minutes here. Any player with a record of consistency on the floor like Hamilton would get all the minutes he wanted on this club.

I don't think it'd be a bad move. I don't know what realistically we could get better than him in free agency this summer with RLEC anyway. And like mentioned by one of the other posters, his consistency and veteran presence could help us out a lot. Also, I would absolutely love to see defenses try to defend him and Rudy on offense. I laugh every time I see Rudy working his butt off because it must just suck to be that defender, but to have Rudy and Rip doing it? Oh man..
