I know Brandon Roy had 27 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds tonight--but where was he in the first quarter when Philly was blowing out to a 20-point lead?? I love Roy, but he was almost invisible out there when we really needed him to stop the bleeding. He was throwing the ball away, making bad passes, and doing very little else. And it was fatal. We could never recover from that big lead in the first quarter. This is the old Roy we're used to seeing. The guy who plays passively in the first quarter so the rest of the team can "get involved." Well, tonight he did that and it killed us. Roy still has to learn that you can't let a team run away from you--and that the star of the team, and its best player, has to do something to right the ship. If we're going to praise Roy for his many great performances, we also have to be honest when he is MIA. And tonight he was MIA for much of the first quarter, and most of the first half. And by the way, the Blazer broadcasting team did a complete suck-up for Roy, and refused to comment on his crappy play. It was a little embarrassing to watch.
I thought this was going to be about Roy not knowing how to beat a double-team, his achilles heel this season.
my favorite part of the night was when rice commented on how the bench let us down early in the 2nd, totally ignoring the hole blake and roy put us in. i used to laugh at M and M, now they just frustrate me. it seems they don't even watch the game sometimes.
I often turn off the blather and listen to music. The score and clock are shown and I know who is dribbling/shooting/rebounding. It's not just M n M, I find most announcers tiresome... that and I really like music STOMP
The bench didn't let us down? Not having Blake did leave a big hole, but the bench still didn't show up.
The Elephant(s) in the room. I'd blame everyone and call it good. They sucked, and some poor, unsuspecting team is gonna pay for it!
Roy is only in his third season in the NBA, and the guy is still only 24. I'm sure he has quite a bit more to learn. He has shown this season that he's capable of being a prime time scorer in this league (something many of us never thought a couple years ago), but he has also shown that he hasn't quite learned how to handle the pressure of being THE GUY. His game improves every year, however, so I'm not worried. Roy is a star.
I had to mute them... I simply can't stand Barrett anymore. He was so disrespectful to the Sixers and always making excuses for the Blazers in a passive agressive way. Ridiculous.
At least you could mute. I had to listen to the game on 95.5 last night and Wheels was absolutely atrocious. He gets so depressed. It's bad enough that we're getting our asses kicked, but I can't listen to Wheels go on sounding like the world is ending. The guy is obviously just as much a fan of this team as we are, and it would be no different than if one of us were making the call.
Brandon's okay. I think the issue is, our team's offense relies on him when he's in the game. So much so that everyone else just takes a back seat. Plus our PG's were terrible last night and couldn't run shiat. Also, why couldn't Oden dominate down-low? Why couldn't anyone hit a jumper, or pass the ball, etc. It's more of an epic team fail then just Roy....he still got his numbers.. =) nobody else did.
Random take from someone much more knowledgeable than Shooter. EDIT: Well, apparently you can't link .wav files. That joke bombed. -Pop
The more I watch League Pass, the more I feel we have one of the most biased announcing crews in the NBA. We always tend to praise other teams' announcers for believing we're a good team, and I don't hear any of that from MB and Rice when talking about other teams. Other teams show highlights and replays of us when we do something good. We don't. Not that I want to see other teams' highlights, but we don't show too much objectivity. That's one beef I've had with Wheels. Love listening to the guy sometimes, but I feel like we're down 20 points every time I hear him. Then he tells the score and we're up 3 or down 5, and I feel like it's not all that bad. But yeah... he just gets so damn depressed, that I get depressed and can't even listen to it anymore to get a real feel for the game. Oh well.. shit happens.
I think Roy looked really slow last night. The hamstring may be worse than we know. Please note the he and Blake fell all over the court last night and it was a mess. The 1st quarter for sure! It was an awful game to watch and the 76's were given a gift. I've said this before, oh yea... it was the Hornets game that we begged them to win in Portland. When our team is off they make it painful to watch!
Not to make excuses for Brandon, but he clearly doesn't look 100% comfortable since coming back from the hammy pull. We're in a bad way at the guard positions for the next couple of weeks unless Sergio and Bayless can step up rise to the occasion.
Yet he looked fine (even great) in his first game back. I don't think you can blame the injury for his performance last night.
You didn't notice him being VERY conservative with his movements? It wasn't until the fourth quarter when he absolutely had to that he was making explosive movements toward the rim ... I almost wonder if he didn't set himself back and nothing is being said about it.
