Kidd?

Have we discussed Jason Kidd yet and whether or not he would fit? Not sure what the Mavs plan, but IIRC he can opt for free agency next year. If we end up making cap space and he is around, what are your feelings on getting him in for a season or two.

Getting old, but he would definately bring the veteran experience to push for the Finals, and Bayless would do well to study under him. Third on all time triple doubles would fill in some gaps in the box scores for us.

I don't know at this point... not sure if going old is what we want to do, but looking at this years free agents, and where we frequently discuss looking for an upgrade, that seem like one of the better discussion points. I do know I enjoy watching him play... wouldn't object to seeing him do 42 a year in the Garden from a pure fun factor viewpoint.

 

He's a good short term answer, depending on what we'd have to give up. I just don't see Dallas letting him go cheaply. The reason:

Sounds good . . . but I can't help but think of last season and how Kidd really didn't help the Mavs for the half season. I think he is helping now, but didn't have the immediate impact Dallas was looking for.

Would the same thing happen to the Blazers?

 

He certainly hasn't helped Dallas. They've been worse since he joined them.

 

Assuming we don't resign Blake (I like the guy, just doing some hypothetical thinking) I don't feel that Rodriguez or Bayless are ready to start as PG (unless some real headway is made while Blake is out hurt).

Given that, what other PG's are available that I missed?

I am just thinking, if Bayless continues to be our plan for the future as our PG, I feel Kidd would be a good player to emulate. While everyone likes a pass first PG, we don't have that right now, so an aggressive scorer-passer-rebounder would be a good alternative in my book. In terms of active PG's, we arent getting Harris, Paul, or Wade...

 

Also- Kidd no longer averages double digits in anything.

Yeah, no doubles, but 8 rebounds for a PG is still juicy. Also, those are after the team change, could be a line up issue.

16th in PER... I guess Nash is ahead of him stat wise, but he is slowing down SO FAST this season, I am afraid of what his numbers will be by the end of the season.
