We have so many players to develop it's tough to find time for all of them. We knew Jerryd would get his time; he has too much talent to remain on the bench. Of course, he's going to have ups and downs, so I hope we stay supportive of his growth. He's a big part of our future.

In Clyde's interview on Blazersedge.com earlier in the week he was practically gushing over Bayless' potential. But I think Nate has handled this the right way; Sergio needed a legitimate shot and half a season averaging 14ish minutes a game is what I would call reasonable, and it was pretty hard to argue with Steve having the best season of his career.

The door is cracked open for Bayless now, it's just a matter of sticking his foot in there, prising it open and ripping it off of its hinges -- hopefully while saying "RAAAAAARRR."

Huh? Are teams really clamoring for a piece of Sergio Rodriguez?

The guy who couldn't even make it on to his national team? (How many NBA players can say that?)

The guy who was out-played by Steve Blake for the starting job? (How many NBA players can say that?)

The PG who has shown not one iota of growth after three years of being coached by McMillan? (How many NBA point guards can say that?)

Two years ago Pritchard would've had all kinds of suitors. Now? I doubt it.

That's pretty high praise from this writer.

There were times last night when Bayless definitely got beat defensively, but I watched the fourth quarter again, and was just as impressed with his defense as I was with his ability to drive inside & finish. He really played Harris tough down the stretch. There was one specific play where Harris drove hard to the hole but Bayless was with him stride for stride and funneled Harris toward Lamarcus who I believe got a piece of the shot. Bayless seems to have the knack of annoyance, so much so that Harris got a Tech due to his pestering defense.

It'll be interesting to see if he's that effective on both ends in our next game.

I don't know if anyone remembers but once after a Blazer trip to Houston, Clyde was really gushing over Victor Khryapa. Maybe Bayless will be a great one but I don't know if Clyde is the greatest talent evaluator in the world.

I'd like to point out that if Veeektor would have stayed in Portland he would probably be our starting SF right now and doing everything Batum does. Veeektor got a raw deal in Chicago

Yes, after TO he's been the one most mentioned for 2 years now.

Sergio was on the National team for over 4 years, and was THE key player leading them to their World Championship.

    Awards and accomplishments

    [edit] Pro career
    ACB Rising Star Award 2005
    [edit] Spanish national team
Won the gold medal at the FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship 2004
FIBA Europe Under-18 Championship MVP 2004
Won the gold medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship
Won the silver medal at the 2007 European Championship

And very, very few NBA counterparts made their National teams.

Pretty much any guard who Steve has competed with for the spot.

According to KP, Nate, and anyone in a position to actually monitor his progress, he has progressed quite nicely and impressed the team with his dedication to improving.
