I don't care what the article said. The whole mess was stupid from the start. We all don't want Miles to play but nobody has the right to stop him from looking for work. KP is a fucking idiot for this move.
Has Memphis guaranteed his contract yet? The Blazers tried to do that when they wanted to claim him off of waiver. I imagine his decent play has Chris Wallace producing coal out of turds at this point. How can he cut him? Guaranteeing Darius would mean a negative impact on the Grizz in terms of any luxury tax ramifications re: Miles, yet there is no way Darius will be in that team's plans in the future. I dare Wallace to cut Miles right now. That only adds to the Blazer's argument. Miles being productive on the floor means Memphis now must choose whether to keep him or not. His production says he should stay. Will he? He should, shouldn't he?j Also, the Blazers never tried to stop the guy from looking for work. Actually, they tried to guarantee him work for the rest of the season.
If he's going to state over and again that KP is arrogant, he should give some examples - he doesn't.
If you are right PG, and I think you are closer to the truth than most think, KP may have actually out-foxed Wallace and caused them to go farther into the hole as a team when in fact they were trying to do the same to Portland. May be a greater hurt to the Griz than it is for Portland. g
their job is to stir the pot and generate hits on their articles... mission accomplished. Being an accurate gauge of history is a peripheral issue STOMP
The hit/sour grapes piece by this hack writer also makes more sense if you think about who his source may be. Why hasn't Memphis guaranteed Miles a contract for the rest of the season? Clearly Darius is ready to be a solid player in the NBA, right?
Wow that is one big pile of a crap that was written. Jail Blazers? Are you kidding me? This made one of Canzano's hate pieces appear kind of tame in comparison, I couldn't even read the whole thing... it was so bad.
I am taking the last statement by yahoo sports write Adrian Wojnarowski is a pun towards #2007 pick Greg Oden meaning that he hurt his knee and didn't play in the 2007-2008 season. Meaning that Greg was a flop and hes coming back in the 2008-2009 season. Kevin Pritchard came into this saga when miles was in rehab? Pritchard took the best advice from doctors and I don't think he is the one to blame for this situation. This was a very poor written article attacking Pritchard when he involved in the rehab part and connection to miles and the team to begin with. Awful article.
who cares what yahoo thinks, we are talking about millions and millions of dollars, something yahoo sports just doesnt affect. they could have a front page story saying "rose garden hot dogs made from human meat", and then maybe PA would worry about it.
While there's some truth in the article (he's absolutely right, I think, that KP was devious, wrong and foolish to talk about Miles' prospective future, I think this graf largely makes Wojnarowski come off like he's writing a hit piece. It's unsubstantiated crap. Attributing (bad) intent to Pritchard for, really... nothing. I think most of that stuff is attributable to the nuttiness of rabid Blazers fans (No offense guys. It's very similar to seeing how John Paxson was given godlike status a few years ago). What's a GM supposed to say to that? Come out and tell his fan's they're a bunch of nitwits? In a nutshell, it makes Woj guilty of what he decries Pritchard for. Overreaching. Instead of just playing his hand well, he has to carry it way too far. But at the end of the day, so what? We're still left with Pritchard as a heck of a talent evaluator. I don't see it as anything close to the Joe Smith situation, and I'd gladly trade John Paxson to get Kevin Pritchard.
Jason Quick said he's 85-90% sure Mark Warkentien has been one of the Western GMs sources that have been bad mouthing Pritchard. Mark Warkentien was the assistant GM for the Blazers from 1999-2003, and then was Director of Player Personnel the next season for Portland. I'd imagine he's bitter for Prtichard getting the GM job and not him. Mark Warkentien is currently the GM of the Denver Nuggets.
When did KP comment on Miles? In reality I don't think he ever said anything beside the fact that the Union doctor agreed that Miles' injury was career ending.
For all those lost respect etc. crap ... We are talking about $25+ million $( including tax money) BTW- Portland will sue and win. The NBA will wave the money off our cap.
I see now winnable path for Portland to win any type of lawsuit over this. The CBA is quite clear in how this process works, and Darius Miles met the CBA's criteria, and if you just watch him, you can see he still has quite a bit of basketball in him, barring another career ending injury (a real career ender this time).
