So Never Surrender is coming out. The one with GSP, BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, Rampage, Heath Herring, and some 40-year old Argentinian guy who was "Ultimate Fighter" in the sweeping epic, Cradle 2 The Grave. The trailer makes it look absolutely ghastly. Here is the synopsis: "Never Surrender is an erotically charged, controversial action-thriller set in the world of underground street fighting where an MMA fighter who has been drawn into the world by an erotic and sexy promoter, quickly realizes that there is no way out, other than death." If you can decipher that horrible sentence, notice how it is an underground fighting scene. Why not an above ground fighting scene? Well, that just wouldn't be cliche enough, would it?

Well, lets go a notch further down the shit pole. Another MMA movie is coming out, this one starring Terrance Howard. The same Terrance Howard who was too crazy to be War Machine in the next Iron Man film, so he was replaced by Don Cheadle. We're talking about a guy who was too crazy to work with Robert Downey Jr.. It also stars Channing Tatum, the dancer from Step Up, and its riveting sequel, Step Up 2 The Streets. Notice how that's the second movie with a "2" instead of the word 'two' in the title? That's a good sign, right? Well you'll never guess what this one is about: "In New York City, a young counterfeiter (Tatum) is introduced to the world of underground street fighting by a seasoned scam artist (Howard), who becomes his manager on the bare-knuckling brawling circuit." Uh oh, not the underground scene again! Damn, have they ever made a movie about an illegal fighting scene? I can't recall*. Seems like a pretty original idea, right? By the way, this film is called Fighting. A team of marketing experts took a month to brainstorm that one. It has a trailer.

Could that one be worse than Never Back Down? Well, I Never Sat Down and watched it, so I don't know how bad Never Back Down was. But I won't watch Fighting either, so I guess it will remain a mystery to me.

But we're not done yet. Hollywood is cashing-in on the MMA craze, so why not the porn industry? ...really.

    Lesbian MMA porn
is next. Here is a quip from a hipster doofus of a reviewer: "I watch a lot of porn [editors note: sweet] for my job, and I can tell you no one -- no one -- is doing what Houston has with a porn film like "Champion". It's a film about fighting, feeling, and, of course, f--ing. Syd Blakovich (sydblakovich.com, site not work safe) portrays Jessie Eaton, a cold, womanizing MMA fighter (Mixed Martial Arts, also known as "Cage Fighting") who's never lost a round in the ring. But her life outside the ring implodes when a series of events show her she's lost the ability to tell the difference between being a must-win fight machine (and f-- machine), and the vital connection of sex -- with love."

Blakovich is mentioned as being a real MMA fighter. I couldn't find any records of her in actual competition, but I did find records of her in some kind of bizarre lesbian nude wrestling scene. Unfortunately they are real lesbians, not Hollywood lipstick lesbians, so the appeal of such a thing is minimal.

*can you name ten in one minute? probably.

LOL watched the trailer for Never surrender.. well most of it, I gave up after 2 mins... it's funny, watching good boxing movies like rocky (1-3) made boxing seem more exciting than most actual boxing matches.. watching this trailer, it feels like the MMA in this will feel hollow compaired to the real thing.
Gotta love 'underground' fighting in a cage with padded flooring.. what's so underground about that???
and nothing will beat the underground classic 'gladiator'

I like Terrance Howard in "Hustle and Flow" and "Iron Man". I am hoping that "Fighting" will actually have a good story behind it.

No problem. I guess its worth mentioning that Tekken, which isn't strictly an MMA movie, will feature Roger Huerta and Cung Le.

Well not to be outdone, Stephan Bonnar now has his own vehicle, "Ultimate Champion", co-starring Sokoudjou, Gilbert Melendez, Sean Sherk, Oleg Taktarov, and Travis Lutter. Ugh.

The production values in that movie are so low. I dont know why all these MMA fighters are so eager to jump into movies, especially ones that bad. I suppose at the time you would have no idea how the final product would turn out but still....These people need better agents.

I don't understand the point of casting him if that is what they do to him. They even call him Georges!

The idea behind getting him to be in this film is to get fans of his to watch. This is just going to piss them off and make them attack the film.

Sure, he doesn't have perfect English, but oddly the guy they dubbed him with has a Spanish accent. WTF?

Re: MMA in movies just isn't helping right now [updated]

Never Surrender is currently pulling down a solid 3.2/10 on IMDB.

Luckily, Hector Echavarria is already making a follow-up, Death Warrior, featuring Jackson, Jardine, Evans, St. Pierre, and Anderson Silva.

And Hell's Chain, featuring St. Pierre, Big Nog, Herring, Mir, and Jackson.

And Duel of Legends, featuring Jackson.

Seems he isn't afraid of being typecast.

I think the potential is there to make a solid flick about an MMA fighter fighting to feed his family or something like that (think Houston Alexander's story), but all these stupid cliche movies are just lame. I haven't seen one and won't.
